Forget Zieliński – Liverpool should sign his £25.2m teammate to help Naby Keita flourish

Jorginho

Why Liverpool Must Sign Jorginho From Napoli This Summer

Liverpool are reportedly interested in a summer move for Napoli midfielder Jorginho. At present, the Reds might be keeping a close eye on securing a Champions League spot but Jurgen Klopp is continuing to scan the market for potential summer targets.

One such name that appears to have crept up in recent times is that of Jorginho’s. The midfielder has attracted attention for his sensational displays which have helped establish Napoli at the very top of the Serie A standings right now.

The Merseyside club is expected to lose Emre Can over the summer and his departure will open up scope for the Reds to bring in a replacement. Even though Naby Keita is set to arrive at Anfield once the season comes to an end, there is no doubt that Klopp will need a new player to boost the team’s power in the middle of the park.

Liverpool’s midfield has often looked one-dimensional throughout the season and they have lacked a creative spark ever since Philippe Coutinho left to join Barcelona last month.

Keita’s arrival could help in that regard but the club will also need a deep-lying player and to that end, a move for the £25.2m-rated Jorginho does make sense. Jordan Henderson has been quite underwhelming this season and he has a tendency to pick up injuries as well.

Hence, having a player as accomplished and reliable as Jorginho will certainly prove to be extremely advantageous for Klopp. The 26-year-old is a defensive-minded player by trade but he is also adept at making some important passes, which are often helpful in counter-attacking situations.

Jorginho is crafty, agile, speedy and he is quite effective at guarding the defence. Throughout the season so far, he has essayed that role to perfection for Napoli and the club appears to have benefited vastly from his services. And the fact that both Liverpool and Napoli usually deploy a 4-3-3 formation could help the midfielder fit in quite comfortably at Anfield.

Bringing him in would not only boost their chances of making a serious title challenge next season but it’ll also help improve Klopp’s options in the midfield area, thus allowing him to experiment a bit. In addition to that, a player like Jorginho can also work well with Keita. The Italian star is solid at sitting back to ward off trouble, allowing Keita the freedom to operate as a box-to-box midfielder.

The duo would undoubtedly boost their defensive structure while also providing a much-needed attacking outlet from within. Hence, this is a player Liverpool must definitely sign this summer.
