Forget Traore – It makes absolute sense for Everton to sign this 12-goal attacker with proven pedigree instead

Everton opinion: Should Everton go for – Malcom or Traore

Everton have a massive season ahead of them. Under the leadership of Farhad Moshiri they’ve definitely shown far more ambition than they have for many years.

The spending has increased and managers are on thin ice if the results and style of football isn’t of an adequate standard. Hence, an 8th place might have been enough in previous seasons but it won’t do any longer.

Last season, Everton had a decent start and huffed and puffed a little but were found out midway through the season.

This led to a massive drop in form which saw the club languishing at the bottom half of the table. They then managed to turn things around after a hard fought draw at home to Liverpool and moved forward with the momentum.

From a footballing angle, they lacked goals from their forward players. Only Gylfi Siggurdson and Richarlison showed up and they depended on creativity from the Iceland international and new signing Lucas Digne. These players would often be doubled down and would kill Everton’s tempo.

Theo Walcott, Cenk Tosun and Dominic Calvert-Lewin did not show the quality to be starters and a couple of right-wingers have been linked. Two of these targets are Malcom from Barcelona and Bertrand Traore from Lyon.

Let’s discuss the two briefly and find out who’d be a better fit at Goodison Park.

Malcom

The Brazilian moved from Bordeaux to Barcelona after much acclaim for his performances in the 2017/18 season. However, he has been peripheral figure in Catalunia since his move and doesn’t seem to be in the favour of manager Ernesto Valverde.

In the 2017/18 season he scored 12 goals and 8 assists and will be hoping that he channel some of his form at Bordeaux for Everton under Silva. He naturally likes to cut in from the right and try to play quick passes and find a team mate or shoot on goal.

Bertrand Traore

Traore also like to cut in from the right but is slightly bigger in frame and is perhaps a more physical player. He’s currently plying his trade at Lyon and hasn’t necessarily done enough to have people notice him.

He had spells at Chelsea and Ajax and maybe a move back to the Premier League under Silva will help elevate him.

Conclusion

Malcom is probably the better choice cause of his proven pedigree. Other Barcelona outcasts have found a home at Goodison and Malcom could be next in line.
