Forget Timo Werner – Here Are 3 Better Alternatives Who Liverpool Can Target To Challenge For League Title

Timo Werner

Three Timo Werner Alternatives Who Can Be Influential In Liverpool’s Title Challenge

Liverpool, the 18 times Premier League champions, have had a decade of underachievement since winning their 5th European Championship title back in 2005. But the Reds have recently shown signs of improvement after Jurgen Klopp’s arrival, the former Borussia Dortmund gaffer, who has guided them to secure a ‘top four’ league finish and has also qualified for the group stages of the prestigious Champions League competition.

But Liverpool are currently in a limbo due to their defensive frailty following a failed attempt to strengthen the back-line that has been a priority all summer. The Merseysiders have some unfinished transfer business and are expected to explore the market when the window reopens in January.

The Reds, however, need to bring in a few more resources if they wish to challenge for the league title. RB Leipzig hitman Timo Werner has been on Liverpool’s radar for quite a while now but the German’s emergence for his national side has made him a prime transfer target of several European heavyweights including Real Madrid. The odds of acquiring Werner in winter is low for the Reds and so they need to shift their focus to other available options.

Liverpool have loaned out Divock Origi to Bundesliga outfit Wolfsburg after he failed to earn a regular place in Klopp’s team. Daniel Sturridge has become largely inconsistent due to significant injury blows whereas Danny Ings is yet to return to the first team following two miserable injury-riddled campaigns. Teenager Dominic Solanke is not yet ready to take charge of Liverpool’s attack and so the Reds need someone who can score goals on a regular basis.

Timo Werner

Here we have shortlisted three such names who might still be influential in achieving season objectives even if the Reds fail to bring in Timo Werner.

Kasper Dolberg

Club: Ajax

Age: 19

Country: Denmark

The Danish teenager set the football world by storm last season when he scored 23 goals in 48 outings for Eredivisie heavyweights Ajax, across all competitions. He is being monitored by several top European outfits and already made three senior appearances for his country and netted against Kazakhstan in 2018 FIFA World Cup qualifiers. He is immensely talented who holds all attributes to become a top-notch forward under proper guidance. Klopp, known for nurturing young talents, can make him an enormous success if Liverpool decide to acquire his services.

Kevin Volland

Club: Bayer Leverkusen

Age: 25

Country: Germany

Volland is a familiar name to Jurgen Klopp, who has been a consistent performer in Bundesliga since 2012. The former TSG 1899 Hoffenheim forward formed an impeccable partnership with current Liverpool star Roberto Firmino for the Bundesliga outfit prior to the Brazilian’s move to Anfield.

Volland joined Bayer Leverkusen last year and impressed in his maiden campaign with 6 league goals in 16 league starts and 9 altogether in 31 appearances across all competitions. He can play as a centre-forward, second striker and also in wide roles. He will perfectly fit in Klopp’s system and his reunion with Firmino will benefit the Reds.

Andrea Belotti

Club: Torino

Age: 23

Country: Italy

The 23-year-old Serie A sensation has drawn eyes of European heavyweights following his scintillating run of form for his club Torino as well as Italy senior side. He scored 26 goals in 35 league outings and netted 4 times in 11 appearances for his country. He has been continuing his great scoring run this season as well and already netted thrice in 3 games across all competitions. Belotti will soon be pushing for a bigger move elsewhere and Liverpool must grab the opportunity to prove their intent of winning silverware.
