Forget Selling: Three Under Performers Who Deserve To Stay At Manchester United

Louis Van Gaal

With Manchester United enjoying a fantastic start to the new season by winning all the pre-season friendlies on offer, the sense of optimism is definitely very high at Old Trafford. With Louis Van Gaal enjoying a 100% record having defeated sides like Real Madrid and Liverpool in the bargain, the Red Devils’ fans can hope for a much improved display from last season.

While these matches were just pre-season matches and does not mean much in the grand scheme of things it was indeed a nice feeling for the United fans to see their team up and running so quickly in the new campaign. On the basis of the friendlies let us take a look at the three players Manchester United need to keep this summer.

Javier Hernandez:

One of the most clinical strikers around! Not only the Premier League but also across Europe, Javier Hernandez is indeed at his best when it comes to finishing off chances. However talks that have been coming out of Old Trafford have been that Chicharito’s time at Manchester United has come to an end. Based on his splendid performances in the friendlies (and offcourse who can forget that brilliant cross to Wayne Rooney which led to Manchester United leveling up the score against Liverpool) Manchester United should really keep hold of Javier Hernandez.

The Mexican grabbed his chances with both hands in the absences of star striker Robin van Persie and maybe he will finally show his full potential under the Dutch maestro Louis Van Gaal. Or to put it correctly, his talent might be put to good effect by LVG.

Ashley Young:

While Ashley Young’s performance since his arrival from Aston Villa in 2011 has been nothing more than average, he looked set to be leaving Manchester United this summer. Atleast that was the general consensus and most of the fans were happy with that decision. However what happened during the preseason friendlies has completely turned Ashley Young’s future at the club. Being in sublime form he has indeed stepped up for Louis Van Gaal and the Dutch manager is one person who loves a player who gives his all for the club. With Van Gaal recently saying he considers Ashley Young as a wing back apart from a pure winger it looks like Ashley Young’s future at the club is safe for now.

Shinji Kagawa:

Shinji Kagawa, is another player who has underwhelmed tremendously since arriving from Dortmund. From one of the best No.10 in the world to playing 15 minutes at left wing for Manchester United, the Japanese player’s career has indeed taken a nosedive. However going by the preseason friendlies there might be hope for the superstar from Japan after all.

With his performances much improved from the previous campaign under David Moyes, it would be interesting to see how Louis Van Gaal handles him. With Juan Mata likely to take up the primary playmaker spot, will Manchester United be able to give him a place in the field which brings out the best from the Japanese? However one thing is for sure and that is a player of Shinji Kagawa’s talent should be retained at any cost, atleast for this season.
