Three players Manchester United could sign to replace Paul Pogba
The prolific Frenchman’s stock has been on the rise ever since he lifted the World Cup with France in Russia. He has been a solid figure for the Red Devils as well and throughout the summer, there have been reports suggesting that he could exit the club before the European transfer deadline at the end of August.
However, if that happens, United will be left in a precarious position. Jose Mourinho only managed to sign Lee Grant, Diogo Dalot and Fred in the recently concluded transfer window.
With the early deadline, they cannot sign any new players until the window reopens in January. And if Pogba were to leave anytime soon, United’s entire campaign could be jeopardized.
If that does happen though, here are 3 players United could target in January.
Sergej Milinkovic-Savic – Lazio
Milinkovic-Savic is a phenomenal midfielder. He is destined for great things in the future and a potential move to Manchester United would certainly be one of them.
The £107m star is quite similar to Pogba in terms of his playing style and much like the flamboyant Frenchman, Milinkovic-Savic does not shy away from scoring the occasional screamer or two.
His finishing skills are deadly and he could prove to be the missing piece in the midfield for the Red Devils.
Saul Niguez – Atletico Madrid
The 23-year-old is well-known for his creativity and playmaking skills in the La Liga. In fact, ever since he burst onto the fore, Niguez has been a gem for Diego Simeone’s squad. He is immensely versatile and can play anywhere across the midfield.
Pogba often struggles when deployed a little deeper than usual but that would not be a problem for Niguez. His tackling skills enable him to contribute significantly to the defence as well, making him a well-rounded player worth targetting.
Marco Verratti – Paris Saint-Germain
Verratti is one of the most creative and powerful midfielders across the continent right now. He is adept at controlling the tempo of the game and he could prove to be a great replacement for Pogba. Given his technical prowess and quick feet, the player should thrive under Mourinho’s tutelage at Old Trafford.
It’s quite tough to get him off the ball and his playmaking abilities from central midfield are absolutely top-notch. His ongoing contract with PSG runs until 2021, meaning he will be an expensive purchase.
