Forget Olivier Giroud – 3 Similar Strikers Who Sam Allardyce’s Everton Can Target In January

Olivier Giroud

Three Olivier Giroud-Like Strikers Everton Can Target In January

Everton have been linked with signing Arsenal’s Olivier Giroud for quite some time and were even tipped to make a move for him in January but if latest reports are to be believed, the player’s wife is not keen on moving to the Merseyside.

Regardless of what the truth of the matter is, the fact remains that the Toffees cannot afford to miss out on signing a prolific goalscorer in January. Only recently have they managed to reach a stable position after a dismal start and new manager Sam Allardyce will be keen on stretching the good fortune.

To do that, however, a new striker is needed and while Giroud is their prime target, it might not hurt them to check out other options that are similar to the Frenchman, in case they fail to land him. As of now, Dominic Calvert-Lewin and Wayne Rooney have held the fort up front but that is not a long-term option if they are to progress higher up the table. Hence, here are 3 strikers Allardyce can target instead of Giroud.

Edin Dzeko – AS Roma

In 23 appearances across all competitions for Roma this season, the 31-year-old has netted 11 goals and 3 assists. He has prior Premier League experience, having played for Manchester City before and could slot right into the current Everton squad. He does lack pace but his aerial prowess and physicality more than make up for it. He could bring in some much-needed stability up front and would buy Allardyce some time to find a better striker next summer. Much like Giroud right now, Dzeko was also used as a super sub for his innate ability to turn things around.

Moussa Dembele – Celtic

Ever since he moved to the Scottish Premiership, Dembele has been in red-hot form. His goalscoring exploits have attracted attention from some top clubs and Everton were also believed to be an interested party. Given his sheer skills and technique up front, the Toffees should most definitely target him. He is quite young and is yet to hit peak form, meaning the player could be a viable long-term option as well for Everton.

Kasper Dolberg – Ajax

Kasper Dolberg took the Eredivisie by storm ever since he broke into Ajax’s senior team. At 19 years of age, Dolberg boasts of tremendous potential and raw talent, which could see him massively transform Everton’s fortunes up front. He scored 23 goals in 49 appearances last term and has found the back of the net 5 times in 18 appearances in the Dutch league this term. A player like him could truly make an impact and Dolberg could go a long way under Allardyce’s watchful eyes.
