Forget Noble – West ham should sign this 22-year-old Cameroonian powerhouse as long-term replacement

Why West ham should try and sign Marseille’s powerhouse midfielder Andre Zambo

According to reports, West Ham have been linked with Marseille midfielder Andre-Frank Zambo. To many, Zambo is relatively unknown figure having only broken on to the scene in the past couple of seasons.

The Cameroonian has enjoyed a breakthrough season in Ligue 1 and has caught the eyes of a number of teams around Europe. He has quickly risen through the ranks, establishing himself as a mainstay in the French club.

At just 22 years of age, Zambo has arguably been the most consistent defensive midfielder in France this term. His combative displays in midfield have helped Marseille to 4th place in the table.

The Cameroonian midfielder, who combines silky touch with a bulky figure, has been one of the shining lights for Marseille, having dished out impressive performances in domestic and European competitions.

Hence, he will not come cheap. However, given the talent that Zambo is, it is clear that the midfielder could solve a lot of West Ham’s problems. Come summer, Moyes must intensify his efforts to sign Zambo.

A defensive midfielder by trade, Zambo has all the qualities to succeed in the Premier League. He is young, dynamic, agile, intelligent and highly proficient in breaking up opposition attacks. With his dominant and athletic displays in midfield for Marseille, the 22-year-old has continued to show why the English clubs are tracking his progress.

Despite physicality being Zambo’s standout quality, the midfielder is also comfortable with the ball at his feet. He would add some much-needed pace to West Ham’s midfield, which would certainly improve the team’s performances next season.

Apart from adding dynamism and bite to the midfield, Zambo would exude calmness and offer defensive solidity, which they have badly lacked this campaign.

The Yaoundé-born ace has been a senior international for Cameroon since last year, for who he made his debut in a 1-0 win over Tunisia. The powerful Zambo certainly fits the bill at West Ham and would be a long-term replacement for club skipper Mark Noble.

Zambo is under contract at the Stade Velodrome until 2021. Considering his contract situation and value, West Ham must invest in the 22-year-old this summer. He is worth the gamble for any Premier League team and West Ham, without thinking much, must take it.

Having Zambo would solidify their backline while also adding a protective cover to the defence. With that being said, the Hammers must try everything to bag his signature at the end of the season, although Marseille would be reluctant to sell one of their prized assets.
