Two Strikers Brighton Should Consider Targeting Instead Of Celtic’s Moussa Dembele
Newly-promoted side Brighton started off on a strong note but their performances have been rather weak lately. They have lost their last three Premier League games by a goal margin of two or more and have only managed to score one goal. These numbers seem rather shocking for a club that seemed so promising when the new season began. Chris Hughton’s men are lacking a good striker up front and that is becoming glaringly obvious as the season progresses. They may not be close to relegation danger yet but they have dropped down to 13th spot after spending some time in the top ten.
If they are to reclaim their place among the big boys, they will need to address their lack of goal-scoring options once the January window opens. The Seagulls are being aggressively linked with Celtic’s Moussa Dembele but in case the move doesn’t happen, here are two other options for the club to consider.
Fyodor Smolov – FC Krasnodar
Having scored a whopping 10 goals in 13 appearances in the Russian league, Smolov has earned appreciation from a lot of quarters. His blistering pace up front has proven to be defenders’ nightmare and Brighton could really use a force like that to inject some life into their seemingly dull attack. The player also provided two assists and is quite consistent in terms of scoring goals.
In fact, in the previous season, he notched up 18 goals in 22 appearances. The fact that he is so adept at getting his name on the score sheet is likely to interest Hughton, as a player like Smolov could drastically boost Brighton’s chances in the latter half of the season.
His finishing skills are sublime and the fact that he is 27 years old means that he can offer experience while also acting as a long-term prospect.
Florin Andone – Deportivo
The 24-year-old forward is quite lethal up front. This season, however, his time on the field has been limited ever since Lucas Perez made a return from Arsenal. Despite that, he has scored 2 goals in 6 La Liga appearances and a player like him could prove to be a viable option for the Seagulls.
Andone boasts of goal-scoring instincts and that is something the Brighton front line is lacking at present. Moreover, since he is only 24, the player has a lot of time to give and that is likely to appeal to Hughton. He netted 12 goals last season and has a penchant for using his speed to his club’s best interests.
