Forget Moura and Lamela – Why this speedy left-foot wizard could be the man for Tottenham

Tottenham Hotspur have been playing great football under Mauricio Pochettino for several seasons now, yet they are lacking something to finally win silverware and make a statement.

The Argentine manager has to deliver the goods before his current golden crop runs out of fuel. Having signed a new contract with the north London club, Pochettino will be definitely looking to challenge for trophies next season.

With the transfer window now open, Tottenham have been linked with making a move for Leon Bailey. The Bayer Leverkusen winger could prove to be just what Tottenham need to take a step towards the next level. Why? Read on!

Leon Bailey

Fast as lightning

Bailey has some serious pace to burn on the wings. The player hails from Jamaica – the land of some of some of the fastest sprinters. Bailey has been a cause of nightmare for several defenders in the Bundesliga because of his explosive pace.

Tottenham, who are known to have superfast transitions from defence to attack, could really benefit from having a player with the pace and directness of Bailey in their ranks.

Deadly left foot

Bailey is emerging as an attacker who is feared and recognised because of his deadly left foot. The winger, who mostly plays on the left, is capable of producing moments of magic with his left boot by either putting in a swerving cross for his team-mates or hitting a rocket shot into the back of the net.

Because of his heavy reliance on the left foot, Bailey’s playing style is similar to Netherlands and Bayern Munich star Arjen Robben.

Bailey is also a very effective set-piece taker with his left foot as he is used to damaging the opposition with his deliveries.

Impressive numbers

Bailey had a breakthrough season in the Bundesliga with Leverkusen where he managed to score 12 goals and provide 6 assists. The youngster’s impressive displays proved to be crucial for his team as Leverkusen finished the season in 5th place, level on points with 4th placed Borussia Dortmund.

Bailey also averaged an impressive 2 key passes and 2 dribbles per game over the entirety of the season.

Although Tottenham already have the likes of Erik Lamela and Lucas Moura in their ranks, Bailey could provide Spurs with an added dimension going forward.
