Chelsea Should Try And Land Andrea Belotti To Add A Different Dimension To Their Attack
Chelsea endured a really topsy-turvy period over the summer in their quest for a new striker. After losing out on Romelu Lukaku, the Blues zeroed in on signing Alvaro Morata from Real Madrid. The move seems to have paid off more or less, even as they infamously lost Diego Costa. They were also linked with signing Andrea Belotti from Torino, but they chose to sign Morata instead. With the January window coming up, should Chelsea make a move for Belotti once more?
It certainly won’t be a bad idea for Antonio Conte. No matter what, Morata is far from a like-for-like replacement for Costa. Belotti, on the other hand, possesses similar qualities to Costa and would therefore be a better fit for Chelsea than the Spaniard.
Essentially, it all comes down to the subtle yet significant differences in both players’ individual styles. Morata is a little bit different when compared to Costa or Belotti. He is more of a finesse player and does not boast of the kind of presence of a player like Costa has in the box. He’s a different player and he brings other qualities.
However, at Chelsea, a player like Costa is needed. He was very influential last season since he’s the type of player who fits the style of football at Stamford Bridge. Morata has been doing well but something is lacking in their attack. To find a similar player like Costa will be challenging, but with Belotti in the fray, Conte need not look any further.
The major question mark over Morata is whether he can perform consistently while by the primary carrier of a team’s goal burden. Its been about two months since the new season started and we have seen that the former Real Madrid man has not been as consistent as one might have expected him to be, whereas Belotti has proven himself to be able.
The Italian striker has had a truly remarkable career so far. He was turned down by Atalanta as a teenager, following which he joined Serie-D club AlbinoLeffe, making his debut for the club as an 18-year-old. He then moved to Torino in 2015 but was dubbed a failure since he could not score in his first ten games for the side. However, one goal against Bologna in November that year sparked a miraculous turn in events for the Italian.
Since then, there has been no looking back, and the player has successfully established himself as one of Europe’s best youngsters, making him a viable option for Chelsea to consider. With tougher games and challenges coming up, the Blues will need reinforcements. Most of their successes last season was because of Costa and that standard is not being met by Morata or even Michy Batshuayi. Thus, Chelsea could most certainly benefit from a deal for Belotti.
