Forget Milner – It Is Time Liverpool Look To Sign Any Of These 3 Quality Left-backs This Summer

Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp

Three Left-Backs Who Liverpool Can Target This Summer

Jurgen Klopp has done a phenomenal job with the squad at his disposal at Liverpool, having taken them to a place in the Champions League already. However, he is now busy trying to improve certain areas in the squad and one position that will be high up his transfer priorities is the left-back position.

Though James Milner was decent, Liverpool need a first choice left-back. After the failure of Alberto Moreno, Klopp is already looking at a few players who could help them next season. This has seen Liverpool linked with a number of full-backs recently and here are three options that Klopp should look at this summer.

Benjamin Mendy (AS Monaco)

The French youngster had a breakthrough season at the Stade Louis II and is now one of the most wanted players in Europe. Constantly linked with a move to Manchester City, Mendy will cost his suitors more than £40m and Manchester City seem to have cooled off their interest. It is not a price Liverpool will be comfortable paying this summer, but with the left-back position being a problem for a number of years now, it might take such heavy investment to solve it once and for all and the 22-year old Monaco star perfectly fits the bill.

Rafa Soares (FC Porto)

One player who is now extensively linked with a move to Anfield is Porto’s latest academy graduate Rafa Soares. Also 22, the Portuguese star spent the last season on loan at Rio Ave, putting in some steller performances in the top flight competition in the country. He looks ready for the next step in his career and might not be able to find enough game time at his parent club. So Liverpool are monitoring his situation and could spend on him to use him as an understudy to Milner next season, giving him a chance, and also the time to establish himself in the first team at Liverpool for years to come.

Jonas Hector (FC Koln)

A transfer target for Liverpool last summer, Jonas Hector ended up signing a contract extension with Koln last season, leaving Liverpool with no chance of signing him. However, he had yet another solid season at the back in the Bundesliga and is an important part of the Germany national squad that is busy with the Confederations Cup. If he is able to impress in that tournament, Klopp will surely try to lure him to Anfield yet again, ending Liverpool’s left-back problems for the good.
