Forget Man Utd – This £40m-rated Ligue 1 dynamo’s career would soar to new heights if he joins Leicester City

Premier League opinion: 2 ideal destinations for Youri Tielemans

According to a report from Leicester Mercury, Youri Tielemans could soon be confirmed as a Leicester player. The Belgian international enjoyed a fantastic loan spell from January to the end of the 2018/19 Premier League season, contributing to 5 assists and 3 goals.

Prior to his loan move, the £40m-rated star had enhanced his reputation at Monaco and Anderlecht. Tielemans was a star on the rise but his adaptation to the Premier League came as a surprise to most, hitting form immediately.

After all, just a few months prior to the loan move, he was part of a Monaco side that was haggling in a relegation battle in the Ligue 1. However, Manchester United are also keeping an eye on the youngster (h/t Leicester Mercury).

Youri Tielemans

Considering both options, let’s discuss which club would be the ideal destination:

Leicester City

Leicester City have been a team on the rise in the last couple of years. Their miraculous Premier League win is one of the greatest sporting accomplishments to have ever taken place and they have used that narrative to build one of the best young sides in the Premier League.

They’ve also added Brendan Rodgers as a manager, chiefly to help the club form an attacking identity after juggling with pragmatic managers like Claudio Ranieri and Claude Puel. They now have some very exciting players like Ben Chilwell, Harry Maguire, Wilfred Ndidi, Ricardo Pereira, Harvey Barnes and James Maddison.

Tielemans has already shown that he would fit fantastically with the players mentioned above and there’s no reason why he shouldn’t continue his development with this project.

Manchester United

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer

Ole Gunnar Solskajer has a massive rebuilding job on his hands. They’ve also shown signs of forming a new identity, by looking towards younger players. They’ve already completed deals for speedster Daniel James and one of the Premier League’s best full-backs from last season in Aaron Wan-Bissaka.

United have already let go of Marouane Fellaini and Ander Herrera and are in need of midfield reinforcements, regardless of the departures of the two players mentioned above. Tielemans and Paul Pogba could form a fantastic combination.

They’re both quite similar but that shouldn’t be a problem if Solskjaer plays a 4-3-3 system or the diamond system that he used so often in his short spell at Old Trafford.

Verdict

For the time being, it’s best if Tielemans continues his development at Leicester City, as there are still areas of his game that need polishing and Brendan Rodgers would be just the manager to help him with that.

United need to concentrate on other areas and have young talents like McTominay and Angel Gomes looking for opportunities and Tielemans’ arrival might hinder their development.
