Forget Karius and Mignolet – It time for Liverpool to splash the cash on this top-class Brazilian

Forget Karius and Mignolet – It time for Liverpool to sign Alisson Becker

There is a big need for Jurgen Klopp to address Liverpool’s goalkeeping situation despite hinting that he will persist with Loris Karius as No.1 next season.

Karius has been solid since becoming Liverpool’s No.1 between the sticks, putting in commanding displays this campaign. His goalkeeping has improved and he performed well against AS Roma in the Champions League semi-finals. However, the German also made a howler in the Champions League group-stage game against Spartak Moscow.

Speaking about Simon Mignolet, Liverpool’s No.2, the Belgian has received a lot of flak from the supporters since joining the Reds from Sunderland in 2013. Mignolet has neither been convincing nor been commanding between the sticks, which saw him lose his position to Karius this season.

Liverpool’s goalkeeping conundrum continues as the two players competing for the first-team place don’t appear to convince anyone. Questions still remain over both Karius and Simon Mignolet and Klopp can’t afford to have slip-ups next season as he challenges for the Premier League title.

It is time for a big call from the German tactician as this summer transfer window becomes crucial. Liverpool need to sign a goalkeeper and they need to sign a world-class one. Klopp needs to be aggressive while recruiting a new goalkeeper.

It is definitely not an easy task. There are very few genuine world-class goalkeepers and they will cost a bomb if not less. Young goalkeepers with enormous potential don’t come cheap and that’s when Liverpool’s recruitment policy will be so crucial.

That said, Liverpool must go for Roma’s Alisson Becker. There is a different buzz surrounding the Brazilian, who has garnered a lot of attention this season with his breathtaking performances in goal. Such has been Alisson’s stellar rise in the last couple of seasons that he is keeping Manchester City’s Ederson out of the Brazil national team.

Alisson showed why he is rated as one of the most exciting goalkeepers around the globe with some impressive saves and punches in the Champions League against the Reds. Despite conceding 7 goals over two legs, the Brazilian was the man to save Roma’s pride when things could have gone worse.

Commanding, strong and capable of pulling off brilliant saves with fine distribution, Alisson is the real deal. He will be worth every penny Liverpool pay for him, although pricing him away from Roma will be an uphill task.

However, if Liverpool are serious about building a winning team, they need a world-class goalkeeper and Alisson fits the bill perfectly and he should get them close to the Premier League title.
