Manchester United opinion: Should the Red Devils go for Moussa Dembele?

With Manchester United looking at an overhaul of their squad, English news outlet the Mirror has reported that they’ve targetted Moussa Dembele. The former Celtic striker arrived at Olympique Lyonnais over the summer and has done relatively well in France.

Dembele was on fire for the Hoops during his two-year spell with the club, scoring an impressive 51 goals in 94 appearances. A brilliant return for any player in the world, he led Celtic to two league titles, before opting to move on.

In France, the 22-year-old has managed to score 17 goals and create a further six assists in all competitions, including 12 in Ligue 1. He has been one of the top-ten goalscorers in France, with the likes of Kylian Mbappe, Neymar and Nicolas Pepe ahead of him.

Having said that, the Red Devils do not need another striker in their ranks next season, given that they have other areas that they need to address.

At the moment, the club has both Marcus Rashford and Romelu Lukaku, two quality front-men. Adding Moussa Dembele would effectively push Marcus Rashford and Romelu Lukaku down the pecking order.

For a 21-year-old, who has the potential to become one of the best in the world that is not good news. In their hopes of re-establishing their dominance on England once again, the Red Devils need to target reinforcements in the right area.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer needs to make sure that he does not make the mistakes of his predecessor Jose Mourinho. With the right players in the right areas, Manchester United have a chance of challenging Manchester City and Liverpool next season.

They’ve been linked with moves for Jadon Sancho (ESPN), Aaron Wan-Bissaka (Guardian) and Toby Alderweireld (Express). It shows the areas that the club believes that they need new additions, and a center-forward should not be on the shortlist.

Manchester United already have two centre-forwards at their disposal and they need to keep faith that the two will do what is required next season.

Conclusion

Bringing in a player like Moussa Dembele would only be detrimental to both Manchester United and the Frenchman. He’s only just arrived in a tougher league and needs to find his footing before he can even think of moving elsewhere.

For Manchester United, they have two wonderful strikers at their disposal and need to help them do well at Old Trafford.
