Forget it Silva – Everton would be better off avoiding this 22-year-old Ligue 1 sensation and here’s why

Everton opinion: Should the Toffees sign Allan Saint-Maximin?

According to GFFN, OGC Nice’s Allan Saint-Maximin has been in talks with three Premier League clubs over a summer move. Everton, Newcastle United and Crystal Palace are all interested in the 22-year-old who has been extremely impressive this season.

The Toffees have been forced to push Richarlison up to a number 9 position this season due to their forwards’ underwhelming performances. The move worked brilliantly with the Brazilian finishing the season as their top scorer.

However, this move cost them on the wings at times, where Theo Walcott has been disappointing despite scoring a few big goals at the latter stages of the season. Marco Silva had to bring back Richarlison to the right-wing which cost them up front again.

Marco Silva should return to his tried and trusted formula of playing Richarlison up front with Sigurdsson behind him and Bernard on the left.

This leaves a spot open on the right-wing, where Everton should bring in someone capable of scoring and assisting on a regular basis, something that Walcott has struggled with this season.

Everton need someone experienced enough to come in and hold on to a regular place in the side but is Allan Saint-Maximin really that player?

The Frenchman has no doubt been impressive for Nice this season, having scored six goals and provided 4 assists in the Ligue 1. Allan has shown tremendous pace and dribbling skills this season, where he has outfoxed a number of defenders in the French top-flight.

Allan has played on both wings this season and also up front where he has played as a lone striker as well as with a partner. This would certainly open up a number of options for Marco Silva next season but the biggest issue that the Everton boss will be in terms of his end product.

The 22-year-old is very similar in style to Arsenal’s Alex Iwobi. His performances in each game show immense promise in terms of carrying the ball from one end of the field to another by taking on multiple defenders on the way but his decision making in and around the box has been very questionable.

Everton already have someone similar in Ademola Lookman, who has shown immense potential but has rarely ever been given regular game time.

The last thing that the Toffees need at this point is another player who needs time to develop and Allan Saint-Maximin just isn’t ready for such a big step.

Conclusion

Everton should focus on a winger who is a finished product and someone who would come in and hit the ground running.

Allan Saint-Maximin will need a lot of time and attention to adapt and make his mark in the Premier League, which is something that will only add to the problems that Everton have at the moment.
