Forget It Pochettino – Why Tottenham Should Avoid Signing This 22-Goal Bundesliga Sensation

Mark Uth

Why Tottenham Should Avoid Signing Mark Uth Of Hoffenheim

The 26-year-old Hoffenheim centre-forward might not be a very well known name in Europe but, he is slowly gathering attention with his recent performances in the Bundesliga. The German footballer joined Hoffenheim in 2015 and has turned out to be a good signing for the German side.

In 58 appearances, Uth has scored 22 times for Hoffenheim. But it is this season where Uth has really started making a mark for himself with 6 goals and 2 assists in just 10 appearances for the Bundesliga side.

But, are these numbers enough for Tottenham to pursue the 26-year-old next summer? Maybe not. Spurs are already flying high under Pochettino and Harry Kane has been supplying an overwhelming amount of goals for the past 3 seasons. The 24-year-old England striker is now arguably one of the best strikers in Europe and is breaking one record after another.

Mark Uth is an impressive player, but why would Tottenham want to spend money on a striker who has barely spent 2 seasons in the Bundesliga? Besides, Spurs also have Fernando Llorente, who joined for an undisclosed amount on a 2-year deal in the summer.

However, in case there is an injury or two for Tottenham’s strikers, Uth could certainly be a good option to pursue. Mark Uth’s contract with Hoffenheim is all set to expire next summer and could join Spurs on a free transfer if he does not extend his contract.

Hoffenheim coach, Julian Nagelsmann also expressed his desire to hold on to the German centre-forward and has said that he will do everything in his power to make sure he does.

The Hoffenheim boss told Sky Sports Germany (h/t Bundesliga.com),

“You can see that he feels comfortable. That’s a big factor for a footballer. He has developed as a player during our time working together. I hope that he will extend his contract and provide further reasons for the club do everything for that to happen.”

Mark Uth single-handedly destroyed Bayern Munich last month after scoring twice against the Bavarians in last month’s Bundesliga clash at the Rhein-Neckar-Arena. Earlier in the season, Uth managed to bag two goals against Liverpool in the Champions League qualifiers, with the first one coming at home, when he came off the bench, and the other one coming at Anfield in the second leg.

Mark Uth is yet to represent Germany at the international level but could soon get a call-up from Joachim Löw after his recent exploits.

Nevertheless, Uth is not a necessity for Tottenham.
