Three Former Transfer Targets Who Tottenham Must Avoid Signing In The Summer

Mauricio Pochettino has taken more Premier League points than any other manager since the start of the previous season but his Spurs side have not been consistent enough. The manager will want to take a step forward this summer and will be looking to add quality players to their squad for the challenges that lie ahead. This might see them spend on transfer targets that were previously not available. However, they will have to be careful in bringing players who could be past their best. Here are three such previous transfer targets who Tottenham should avoid spending on during the summer:

Ross Barkley (Everton)

The English star is one of the most exciting playmakers in the country at the moment but he is taking too long to take the next step. At just 23, he is still at the start of his career and could be available on the cheap. But with just 5 goals and 9 assists in 34 appearances across all competitions this season, show that he is out of form. Spurs do not need another Moussa Sissoko in their hands and should avoid spending on this Everton star, who is yet to fulfill his potential.

Sandro Ramirez (Malaga)

The former Barcelona star is a terrific option in front of goal and at just 21, is a superb option for Pochettino. He is up there with the best finishers in the La Liga and could play perfect second fiddle to Harry Kane at White Hart Lane this summer. However, he has managed just 11 goals and 2 assists in all competitions this season and has not been in great form of late. Pochettino might yet again have another Vincent Janssen in his hands if he decides to spend on the Spanish star this summer.

Luke Shaw (Manchester United)

A controversial entry in this list is Manchester United man Luke Shaw. Constantly criticised by Jose Mourinho at Old Trafford, Shaw is a potential star in England and is one of the most promising full-backs in Europe. He is still 21 and will grow into a star player but at the moment, he is still raw and is prone to injuries. Tottenham are better off looking at a more established star than Shaw for their team next season. The former Southampton man could become a huge star in the future but at the moment, he is someone who Spurs should avoid this summer.
