Forget it Pellegrini – West Ham should avoid the blunder of signing this struggling Serie A star in the summer

West Ham opinion: Should the Hammers make a move for Juan Cuadrado?

Football London has reported that West Ham are interested in a move for Juventus star Juan Cuadrado.

The 30-year-old has struggled with the arrival of Cristiano Ronaldo this season, making just 18 appearances in all competitions. However, his main issue has been consistency, with the Colombian not getting regular game-time.

That has West Ham interested in making a move, as they believe that they can convince the 30-year-old to join their ranks in the summer. They’ve already managed to add Felipe Anderson, Andriy Yarmolenko and even Lucas Perez.

They have a talented squad at their disposal but it needs to be improved even further. That being said, adding Juan Cuadrado will certainly not help them. The 30-year-old has a little Premier League experience, having spent six months at Chelsea but it was a largely forgettable one.

Lack of appearances and game-time saw him move on to Juventus, with two different loan spells before making it permanent. Yet, nothing special has happened for the Colombian in Turin.

The Hammers have a good core with Declan Rice, Lukasz Fabianski and Felipe Anderson forming the spine of the team, but they need good supporting casts. The likes of Marko Arnautovic, Mark Noble and even Yarmolenko are good but not consistent.

That can also be said for Cuadrado and what West Ham need someone more reliable. Yarmolenko has the potential to be that man, but the 29-year-old was struck by a season-ending injury just 9 Premier League games into his Hammers career.

Next season, he might struggle to replicate his initial form. Even if he does, West Ham have to start looking elsewhere and Juan Cuadrado is certainly not the man.

The 30-year-old relies far too much on his speed and agility to beat players and will struggle to produce much once his ageing knees catch up to him.

His technical ability is not at a level that West Ham needs it to be, and his end product is lacklustre at times. Last season, the Colombian managed to score only five goals, despite playing 29 games in all competitions.

With him struggling to make an impact since his move to Juventus, there are no signs that he will be any better for West Ham. The Hammers need to start looking elsewhere to shore up their squad.

Conclusion

Juan Cuadrado is nearing the end of his career and the 30-year-old isn’t the right man for West Ham manager Manuel Pellegrini to move his team forward. Instead, they need to target someone much more prolific and younger.
