Forget it Mourinho – Why Manchester United must avoid dropping £40million to sign this Bayern Munich superstar

As per a report from The Mirror, Manchester United are ready to launch a stunning £40million bid to sign Douglas Costa, who is currently serving a loan spell with Juventus.

The Bayern Munich star has performed incredibly well during his season-long loan with the Italian giants and it comes as no surprise that United are eyeing a summer move for him. However, do the Red Devils really need another winger on their team?

At present, Jose Mourinho has a plethora of attacking options at hand and honestly, it does not make sense for the club to even think about bringing in yet another wideman.

After going all out to sign Alexis Sanchez in the January window, United have been faced with quite a dilemma up front. The Chilean star has not been producing desired results and his inclusion has eaten away significant game time from the likes of Anthony Martial and Marcus Rashford.

Hence, instead of signing a new winger, it would make more sense for Mourinho to work with the tools currently at his disposal. Also, splashing a sum of £40million to strengthen an already strong area might not be the best move since United are in dire need of reinforcements in several other areas.

Douglas Costa

The Red Devils need new full-backs and midfielders and the upcoming transfer window will provide them with a good chance of doing just that. Speaking of midfielders though, a player like Costa might be able to help them in that regard. Straight off the bat, he is an extremely versatile and creative player and can be deployed across a variety of attacking and midfield positions.

Although that is not his natural position, Costa has done decently enough for Juventus in those roles and if needed, he could do the same at Old Trafford as well. However, United can sign some quality natural midfielders for a similar amount, thus making the pursuit seem rather futile.

After an entire season of playing it safe, it is high time for Mourinho and company to bring in new players where it is actually necessary. Many fans were of the opinion that signing Sanchez was more of an ego trip for Mourinho rather than a necessity and based on what we have seen, there could be some truth to it.

However, resting all speculations aside, it is best for United to avoid signing Costa but they do not need a player like him right now.
