Forget It Klopp: This £17m English Attacker Is Not The Right Man For Liverpool At The Moment

Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain

Liverpool’s Jurgen Klopp would be ready to make a number of changes to his squad at the end of the season and he has been linked with some of the best names in Europe. But one player who has constantly been linked with a move to Anfield this summer is Arsenal star Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain. The English midfielder is frustrated with the lack of playing time at the Emirates and could be looking to move this summer and Liverpool one of the few clubs monitoring his situation for a move at the end of the season. But is the £17m star the right man for Liverpool? Here is why Jurgen Klopp should skip signing the 23-year old and look elsewhere this summer.

But is OX the right man for Liverpool? Here is why Jurgen Klopp should skip signing the 23-year old and look elsewhere this summer.

The midfielder was touted as the next best thing in English football not so long ago but Oxlade-Chamberlain has just not been able to cement a place in the first team under Arsene Wenger. But most of it should be down to the fact that Wenger is yet to decide on which position Ox is most influential at. Standing as one of the most versatile players in England, Chamberlain’s pace allows him to be an effective option on the wing but the 23-year old is more adept in playing in a midfield role – a role that Wenger has extensively used him in this season.

The Arsenal man has made 37 appearances in all competitions this season but more than half of those have come from the bench. Yet, he has 6 goals and 7 assists to his name, which shows his quality in the midfield. However, he is not a player who will walk into the first team at Anfield. Jurgen Klopp has a good squad at the moment but needs quality players to help him fight for the title next season and at the moment, Ox is just not that man.

His dynamism will come in handy in crunch games but Ox would not walk into the first team at Anfield and with Klopp already looking for other additions, he will not be as important for Liverpool like he is for Arsenal. Ox is a hard-working player who will give it his all in every game. During this barren spell for Arsenal, the 23-year old is one of the few players who can keep their head held high. But it is hard to see him play an important role for Liverpool next season.

As mentioned, the Reds need first team additions and not squad depth, as their current squad can account for the depth if they spend on first team players. Ox and his English league experience cannot be disregarded but the Arsenal man is just not what Liverpool need in order to make progress next season.

Do you think Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain is a good option for Liverpool?
