Forget it Klopp – Liverpool must avoid this £35m-rated youngster and sign a top keeper instead

According to reports, Liverpool are interested in making a move for Lazio goalkeeper Thomas Strakosha, who is valued at £35m by Lazio.

Liverpool’s search for a goalkeeper continues, with Roma star Alisson Becker a top target, whilst Atletico Madrid’s Jan Oblak has also been mentioned. However, it appears as if Jurgen Klopp has diverted his mind and is targeting Strakosha instead.

The Reds are in dire need of a new shot-stopper after Loris Karius and Simon Mignolet’s inconsistent displays this past season. Mignolet was the first-choice under Klopp but a series of error-strewn displays cost him his position.

Karius replaced him as Liverpool’s No.1 and after a slow start, he soon started dishing out impressive displays. It appeared as if the Merseysiders wouldn’t need a new goalkeeper but then came the Champions League final.

Karius zeroed down all his earlier good work with a dismal performance as Liverpool succumbed to defeat against Real Madrid last month. The German was at fault for Real’s two goals as the Reds 3-1.

It is high time for Klopp to fix the goalkeeping situation if he wants to challenge for the Premier League and other trophies next season. An experienced and reliable goalkeeper is what the Reds need at the moment. But is Lazio’s Thomas Strakosha the ideal man to replace Karius in goal at Anfield?

Strakosha, 23, joined Lazio from Panionios in 2012 and after a loan spell with Salernitana, he has become a regular for the Serie A club. The Albanian’s stock has seen a rise, particularly after his fine displays in goal last season as Lazio narrowly missed out on a spot in the Champions League.

Despite emerging as one of the most promising goalkeepers in Italian football, the Reds must avoid signing Strakosha. The Reds need a better-rounded goalkeeper, someone capable of winning matches single-handedly.

Strakosha comes nowhere near to the list of complete goalkeepers as he is yet to reach his true potential. The 23-year-old is a goalkeeper with a bright future but Klopp needs somebody who can make a difference immediately.

That said, the Reds must aim high and continue their search for a goalkeeper that can win them games on his own. In terms of talent, there is little doubt that Strakosha is one of the best but the Merseysiders are clearly better without him.
