Forget It Conte: Why Chelsea Will Make A Blunder By Signing This Italian International?

Antonio Conte coming to Chelsea can only mean good things for the Blues. The Italian manager did show some rather incredible tactical nuances in Euro 2016 and Chelsea fans will expect something similar from the crafty Italian in the Premier League.

The former Juventus manager did sign Michy Batshuayi but he seems to be in line for another winger who could solve a lot of attacking problems for the Blues and that player is Antonio Candreva. The Lazio attacker had a great Euro 2016 for Italy and would be looking to continue this for the side from London as well but should the club splash the cash for the talented attacker?

We answer that question by taking the help of Squawka.com. We would be comparing the league campaigns for the two attackers by looking at their per 90 minute averages.

An Italian faces a Brazilian

Looking at the passing of both the players, it is Willian who actually surges ahead of the Italian as he completes 40 passes per game compared to the 32 passes made by Candreva. Even in terms of pass completion, it is the Chelsea man who just edges the Lazio star with an 83% completion compared to 81% for the Italian.

When it comes to assisting though, Willian is in a league of his own; despite Chelsea not having the best of seasons, the Brazilian racked up 2.46 key passes per 90 minutes while Candreva only came up with 1.35 per 90 minutes.

That trend continues when it comes to assists as well with Willian coming up with 0.20 assists every 90 minutes while Candreva only provided 0.12 assists per 90 minutes for the Serie A side. When goal scoring comes to the fore, it is surprisingly the Italian, who does extremely well.

The 29-year-old Italian scores 0.41 goals per 90 minutes and even with the great form that Willian showed last season, the Brazilian only chipped in with 0.16 goals every 90 minutes in the league. The Chelsea star is better at beating players with a success rate of 67% compared to just 50% for the Lazio man.

All in all, it does seem that Willian is the better player than Candreva. The Brazilian had one of his best seasons ever for Chelsea last time around, even when things were not going his way and he should continue in the same vein of form and try to achieve something better under a new manager.

Candreva might not seem as a fit for Chelsea at the moment but you never know what Conte might be thinking. At the moment, he does not seem like the smartest of buys and sticking with the likes of Eden Hazard and Willian is the way forward for the Blues and Conte.
