Chelsea Must Avoid Signing These Players At All Costs

Chelsea have made great progress since lingering in the bottom half of the points table around the same time last year. The change in manager has worked wonders for the Blues, who are not too far away from lifting their second league title in 3 years. The manager has some serious plans for the squad as he is looking to add some quality players to help his side compete with the best next season. This might see Chelsea bring in world class players who have been eluding them for the past few seasons. But here are three constant transfer targets of the past that the Blues should avoid spending on this summer:

Riyad Mahrez (Leicester City)

The PFA player of the year for his efforts last season, Mahrez is still one of the most exciting wingers in the English league but with just 9 goals and 7 assists in 42 appearances, he has not been in great form this season. He is contracted with the Foxes until 2020 and hence will cost a lot of money. Despite his big transfer fee, he may not be the first choice at Stamford Bridge. So Chelsea are better off spending that money on a player who can make an instant impact at the club.

Marco Reus (Borussia Dortmund)

One of those transfer stories that never go away is Chelsea’s interest in German star Marco Rues. The 27-year old is one of the most exciting wingers in Europe and is wanted by a host of clubs in England. But he has just 6 goals and 7 assists to his name in another season that has been hampered by injuries. Chelsea need a player who they can depend on in crunch times and though Rues has the ability to make the squad stronger, he may not be the right man for Antonio Conte, to push the team forward in years to come.

Adama Traore (Middlesbrough)

Another winger who Chelsea have been looking at for some time now is Middlesbrough star, Adama Traore. A student of the La Masia academy, Traore is right up there with the most exciting youngsters in Europe but he has failed to realise his potential at the Riverside this season. He was linked with a move to the Bridge even this January but a return of just one assist in 30 games in all competitions this season should see Chelsea avoid spending on him any time in the near future.
