Forget Higuain – 3 Top alternatives Chelsea could sign including Bundesliga goal machines

Three ideal alternatives for Higuain who Chelsea could target

Having missed out on a Champions League berth last season in the Premier League, Chelsea‘s battle to return to top-4 is undergoing several setbacks in spite of managerial alteration which saw Antonio Conte make way for his fellow countryman Maurizio Sarri.

The Blues have missed out on several preferred options, who snubbed them to ply their trade elsewhere. Chelsea are still in search of a prolific goalscorer, with the new Premier League season set to commence in less than three weeks time.

As per latest reports, Sarri is keen on a reunion with former Napoli hitman Gonzalo Higuain, the 30-year-old Argentine international who has maintained his scoring streak with Juventus since completing a switch in 2016.

The Serie A champions, however, shook the transfer window by roping on iconic Cristiano Ronaldo but need to free some players now to meet FFP regulations.

Although the veteran South American centre-forward has returned 55 goals in 105 outings for I Bianconeri, there are other options as well in the market who can be signed by Chelsea.

Robert Lewandowski

Age: 29

Current Club: Bayern Munich

Country: Poland

The Polish veteran is one of the most eminent names in German football due to his successful stints with Borussia Dortmund and Bayern Munich, where he has won multiple league titles.

He, however, is reportedly eyeing an exit to experience a fresh challenge amidst interest from Real Madrid and Manchester United and the Blues must join the bidding war now to resurrect their interest.

Neither of Alvaro Morata, Michy Batshuayi and Olivier Giroud is likely to be banked on as a first-team individual and a move for Lewandowski makes sense.

Timo Werner

Age: 22

Current Club: RB Leipzig

Country: Germany

Unlike Lewandowski, Werner is an emerging talent who enjoyed a couple of productive Bundesliga campaigns with RB Leipzig and clinched the FIFA Confederations Cup Golden Boot reward last year.

He spearheaded Germany’s attack in the recent World Cup campaign but had a disappointing run following a group stage exit where he failed to score a single goal in three outings.

Werner, however, has enormous potential. Chelsea, in search of a prolific goal-scorer, should explore this option and lure him in to lead the line.

Mariano

Age: 24

Current Club: Lyon

Country: Dominican Republic

Completely off the radar but the 24-year-old former Real Madrid starlet showed his quality and ability to score goals in his maiden Ligue 1 campaign. He scored 18 and provided 5 assists in 34 league games for Olympic Lyonnais and has all the traits to become a star name in the near future.

With Europa League to offer, the Blues might find it hard to attract esteemed names but should be able to rope in the Dominican international who has performed with distinction at the top level.
