Forget Griezmann – It is time Jose Mourinho looks to sign any of these two Euro superstars

Antoine Griezmann

Two Antoine Griezmann Alternatives For Jose Mourinho To Bring To Manchester United

Manchester United have harboured an interest in Atletico Madrid star Antoine Griezmann for quite some time. They were even close to signing him over the summer but the move did not materialise and Romelu Lukaku joined the club eventually. However, with the winter window fast approaching, there were some rumours suggesting Jose Mourinho could renew his interest in the prolific forward. Landing a player like Griezmann in the January window could seem like an uphill task but there is a need for an attacking player at United.

Lukaku seems to be faltering while the likes of Anthony Martial, Marcus Rashford and Henrikh Mkhitaryan have been frustratingly inconsistent. Jesse Lingard has done decently of late but there is no denying that there is a serious lack of quality in their attack.

More often than not, Mourinho is accused of parking the bus and using deeply defensive tactics but there is little he can do when the team has such a weak attack. Hence, even if they are unable to land Griezmann, here are two alternatives the Red Devils could consider targeting.

Mauro Icardi – Inter Milan

Having scored 17 goals for the Serie-A side in 18 appearances this season, there seems to be very little reason as to why United must not consider him. He was spectacular last season as well and has shown signs of consistency with his performances this time as well. At just 24 years of age, he has captained Inter and is an out-and-out sharpshooter with wonderful movement. He can dribble quite well and could be a formidable presence up front if he were to join United. His age can also help Mourinho in moulding him to uplift and inspire an otherwise lacklustre attack.

Andrea Belotti – Torino

In 18 appearances across all competitions for Torino, Belotti has scored 7 goals and is quite strong in the air as well, which is a remarkable quality for a frontman. Also, Belotti’s finishing skills are top-notch and he could prove to be a valuable addition to a United side that continues to struggle up front. Like Icardi, Belotti is also 24 years of age and can prove to be a splendid long-term option.

He has enjoyed a fantastic start to his career and could do wonders at Old Trafford if United were to sign him. Known for his creative goalscoring skills and speed, Belotti could prove to be a massive upgrade compared to United’s present crop of players in that department.
