Forget Douglas – Wolves should sign this 4-assist Southampton star for their Premier League campaign

Forget Douglas – Southampton’s Ryan Bertrand Would Be A Brilliant Signing For Wolves

Wolves will be incredibly happy with their season. They have won the Championship at a canter and early enough to start preparations for the Premier League earlier than most of their rivals.

The one thing that Wolves don’t have a lack of is money and moving to the Premier League, they will be allowed to spend even more as they will be working to different financial fair play restrictions. This means that the footballing world can expect them to make some real waves in this window.

One player that is available and has been linked with Wolves over the last few days is the Saints wing-back and Champions League winner Ryan Bertrand, who seems set to leave Southampton in the summer.

Bertrand is an interesting prospect for Wolves fans. It is undeniable that he has had a below-par season. He has played 32 times for Southampton this season in the left-back position and all that he has mustered is 4 assists in the league. However, he can be excused a little as Southampton have not played free-flowing football this season.

Nuno Espirito Santo has been very consistent in selecting his formation this season and one of the best things about the Wolves team this term has been their insistence on playing with two wing-backs to give them strength at the back but also width when going foward.

In the Championship, these two have been Barry Douglas and Matt Doherty, who have 9 goals and 18 assists between them, which is an incredible number for two wing-backs. The main question is, do these two have the ability to make the step up to the Premier League and continue to deliver?

Ryan Bertrand has Premier League experience. He has pace, skill and is an excellent crosser of the ball. He ticks all the boxes to be a perfect wing-back for Wolves.

The biggest question though is how much do Southampton want for him? If it is below £10million, then Wolves would be foolish not to snap him up. However, anything more than that and there are probably better options in this position. After all, Jorge Mendes represents Fabio Coentrao!
