Forget Big Signings: Here Are 3 Value For Money Options Tottenham Should Look To Sign

Tottenham manager Mauricio Pochettino

Three Budget Signings That Pochettino Can Make This Summer

Tottenham Hotspur are one of the very few teams in Europe that are yet to add a top class player to their ranks this summer. Having failed to land a trophy last season, they will be desperate to add some quality to their first team so as to help them win something next season. Pochettino is sure to look at some of the most established stars to make sure that he has enough firepower for the 2017/18 season.

However, like every summer, he will also keep an eye out for cheap alternatives, who can add depth to the lineup at Spurs. Pochettino is yet to make his first signing this summer and will target the best of the lot in Europe but here are three budget alternatives he should be on the lookout for in this transfer window:

Martin Caceres (free agent)

Though he does not fit the recruitment model for Pochettino, Uruguay’s versatile defender Martin Caceres can solve a few problems at the club, coming on a free transfer. He was picked up by Southampton at the start of the year after his contract with Juventus ran down. However, he made just one appearance for the Saints, not making enough of an impact to warrant a new deal. He is yet again a free agent and his ability to play at CB and also as a full-back should attract the Argentine manager for a move this summer.

Cedric Soares (Southampton)

Another Southampton man who Spurs are already targeting is the first choice right back at the St Mary’s, Cedric Soares. The 25-year old joined Southampton from Sporting back in 2015 and did not take too long to establish himself in the first team at the club. He is contracted to the club until 2020 but does not have a release clause in his contract, which might see the Saints lose him for just £15m this summer. Having sold Kyle Walker to Manchester City for over £50m, they should be able to afford Soares this summer.

Nikola Kalinic (Fiorentina)

The only player on this list who is from outside the Premier League is Croatian striker Nikola Kalinic. Linked with a move to Tottenham already, the 29-year-old is an established international, who has been in the first choice for the Serie A outfit for more than a year now. At his age, he is in his prime as a footballer and with just two years left on his contract, he can be a cheap backup for Harry Kane. His previous experience of playing in England with Blackburn will be useful and he is a genuinely attractive addition to the squad.
