Forget Big Money Signings – Why The Arrival Of This Single Man Could Change Manchester United’s Fortunes

The Dutchman’s (Louis Van Gaal) future at ‘The Theatre Of Dreams’ is surely in danger as his side is continuously failing in front of their supporters. There is a constant rumour spreading all over the globe about ‘The Special One’ (Jose Mourinho) joining the Red Devils from the beginning of 2016-17 season.

The 2015-16 season is going from bad to worse for Louis Van Gaal’s army. Though the beginning of the season was impressive but as the injury list escalated the performance declined. Till date most of Man-United’s senior player from the squad is out injured and apart from injuries, the Devils are lacking in their final third. Van Gaal spent  £250million to bring top quality players but eventually the team was knocked out of the Champions League in the group stages and finally from the Europa League’s round of 16 through their arch rivals Liverpool and ultimately ‘The Philosopher’ is now aiming nothing more than a Top 4 Finish.

Excluding signings, at the beginning of the season, Van Gaal sold Di Maria whose deal was a loss to the club. Sold Robin Van Persie, Danny Welbeck, Javier Hernandez knowing the team would need an attacking substance in near future alongside Rooney. Their careers under the Dutch was going down eventually unless they were forced out. Despite bringing strikers like Anthony Martial and Memphis Depay at the club Van Gaal have very fewer shots on target at home and we can surely say that the Theatre of Dreams is losing its magic. The Dutchman has a great managerial record and has won many titles with different clubs but had no success in Premier League till date. His Philosophy has seen his side playing most number of backwards and sideways passes in the Premier League.

Louis Van Gaal has no better stats than David Moyes who was sacked with 4 games to spare in the Premier League. Taking a view over spendings, the Scottish spend £1.1m per point in Premier League where on the other hand, Van Gaal spent £2.6m per point in Premier League. United are considered as a very lucky team this season just due to the rapid failure of Chelsea and Liverpool. If the two teams have worked on their full potential, United would have been somewhere around 7th or 8th.

Now, Many sources are suggesting that the Portuguese manager has agreed to become the new boss of Manchester United from next season. But is the Portuguese a Right Man to succeed Louis Van Gaal?

Well, the answer lies behind the stats of Jose Mourinho. The Special One has 8 domestic titles, 2 UEFA Champions League and a Super Cup under his belt from 2003-2012. As the arch rivals Manchester City have announced the arrival of Pep Guardiola, United side will surely need a fire in their management side to match their game, and what United need is to bring someone who’s going to make it work and bringing Jose Mourinho will surely help their case. Apart from Sir Alex Ferguson, Jose Mourinho is the most successful manager alongside Arsene Wenger in the history of the Premier League.

What Makes Jose Mourinho ‘The Special One?

The 53-year-old manager has a winning mentality and has developed a strong bond with the fans at his previous clubs and surely every United fan will welcome him at Old Trafford. In 2004-05 when he took over Chelsea, the team were beaten just once and conceded just 15 goals in 38 matches. Mourinho is well known for his quick reaction for the game and is one of the greatest managers in the footballing world. He is also praised for his attention to detail, organizational planning and in-game communication.

The ex-Chelsea boss will surely bring back the magic of Old Trafford if the deal is set. But this deal can somehow affect the current United midfielder Juan Mata who was shipped out to Manchester United just four months after the arrival of Mourinho at Chelsea. But Jose is also famous for getting rid of the fan’s favourite at the earliest which could result in an unexpected end for some names at Old Trafford. Meanwhile, both the managers have had hard criticism from their former players-

Lucio on Van Gaal: “[He] hurt me more than anyone else in football”

Iker Casillas on Mourinho: “It was like being in a couple. The relationship went downhill”

Zlatan Ibrahimovic on Van Gaal: “[He] is a dictator, with no sense of humour”

David Luiz on Mourinho: “He is not special for me”

Franck Ribery on Van Gaal: “I haven’t had fun on the pitch once under him. I have had more than enough of it”.

David Suazo on Mourinho: “Mourinho is arrogant and selfish, and likes to assert his dominance”

Jose is also linked with Real Madrid but after the arrival of Zinedine Zidane at the club, it would make no sense to announce a new manager. Jose has clearly admitted that he would not be joining Inter Milan and as the current situation speaks for itself, Manchester United is the Only Club as the Dutchman is becoming the enemy number 1 for the Devil’s Fans.

To sum it up, the arrival of Jose Mourinho will surely bring the optimism back for the players where on the other hand his arrival could end the careers of some of the players at Manchester United. Van Gaal may have been the main man in 90’s where he delivered 10 major titles but no longer.
