Forget Andrea Belotti – West Ham would be better off signing this reputed 22-year-old ace with €50m buyout clause

West Ham opinion: Belotti or Gomez – Who should West Ham sign?

West Ham have officially sold Marko Anautovic and the Austria international has been one of the West Ham’s best players since his move in the 2017/18 season. A polarizing figure, this was eventually going to happen and West Ham will be losing one of their star players.

Lucas Perez and Andy Carroll have left the club and Javier Hernandez is likely to move out as well.

Hence, it is imperative that they find an adequate replacement for the Austrian and they have been linked with two highly touted reputed strikers in Maxi Gomez of Celta Vigo and Andrea Belotti of Torino. They’re both internationals and are quite similar threats.

Let’s discuss as to who could possibly be the better option:

Maxi Gomez

Gomez has made a name for himself in the last few years and scored 13 goals last season for Celta Vigo. Uruguay seem to consistently produce great forwards and Gomez is next in line.

He has great aggression about him and is an absolute monster aerially. He’s extremely combative and would trouble most defenders in the Premier League with his physicality.

The 22-year-old Uruguayan has a €50m buyout clause and West Ham will have to trigger it if they want to get him. They’ll have to break their transfer record but Gomez is probably worth the punt. He’s the future of Uruguay and could be the same for the Hammers.

Belotti

Belotti made noises in the 2016/17 season after a terrific season for Torino in the Serie A, where he scored 28 goals and 3 assists in all competitions.

This earned him a national cap as well. Belotti hasn’t hit the same heights since though, having scored 13 in the 2017/18 season and 17 in the 2018/19 season in all competitions but he’s still got many years as a striker ahead of him at 25.

It’s not just his goalscoring that is to be admired though. Belotti is a tireless worker who chases every ball. He is constantly harrying defenders into making mistakes and is a solid threat in the box.

Conclusion

It’s hard to decide between the two as they’re both quite similar. Gomez is the younger of the two and has probably got a higher ceiling.

Pellegrini’s experience in La Liga should come as a factor for Gomez as he could trust his judgement. Maxi Gomez just beats Andrea Belotti here.
