Forget Alberto Moreno – Here Are 3 Super Left Backs Options Liverpool Must Consider Looking At

Share

Alberto Moreno was defended by manager Jurgen Klopp after the horror show from the Spanish full-back in the 4-3 win over Arsenal. However, the defender is unlikely to return to the first-team after being dropped for the 2-0 loss against Burnley. He may force his way back into the first-team reckoning only if Liverpool fail to identify a proper replacement for him in the remaining few days of the transfer window.

Moreno has been given a lot of time to improve his game, but it seems that Liverpool are better off looking elsewhere for a proper left back. Here are some of the three options capable of replacing the 24-year-old. Here are the top three options for Liverpool to consider:

Jonas Hector (FC Cologne)

Chelsea are reportedly interested in signing the FC Koln defender as a replacement for Baba Rahman. Hector has been on the radar of Chelsea for quite a while, but he recently signed a new contract. It is expected to push his price to around the £20 million mark. However, Liverpool should be considering an approach for the German international considering that he will be the solid defender that they badly need right now. Hector is first and foremost a defender, which might be the only thing stopping Jurgen Klopp as he searches for an attacking left back.

Club legend Phil Thompson is the latest to urge the club to sign a new left back and solve the defensive crisis.

Marcos Alonso (Fiorentina)

Alonso has come a long way since his days at Sunderland on a loan deal. The Spanish full-back made 39 appearances for Fiorentina in all competitions last season. His ability to get a few goals will also be a positive aspect in his favour. The biggest advantage, though, maybe that Alonso is likely to be available on a cheap. Fiorentina were reportedly ready to accept an offer as low as £1.5 million for the player last summer. He could cost in the region of £10 million, which is an insignificant sum of money considering Liverpool’s problems in this position.

Andrew Robertson (Hull City)

The Scottish full-back will represent a gamble compared to the established names, but he has done well with newly promoted Hull City for the last two years. As a home-grown player, he will also provide space in the squad for an expensive non-British signing. At just 22 years of age, he can develop a lot going forward.
