Food For Thought: Should Arsenal Sell Their Youngest Debutant To AC Milan?

Jack Wilshere is being targeted by Italian giants AC Milan

Arsene Wenger’s Arsenal is not a team who are known for their spending spree but the manager decided to break the bank in the summer transfer window to land some top class players to help his side in the hunt for trophies this season. These additions have seen a few players at the club lose their place in the side and one such player who was sent out on loan is midfielder Jack Wilshere. The young debutant for Arsenal in the Premier League, Wilshere was not in the plans of the manager at the start of the season and he decided to send the midfielder on loan to Bournemouth to find some game time. The 25-year old has less than 18 months left on his contract with Arsenal and Wenger are not closer to offering him a new one.

This has seen a number of papers pick up on stories that Wilshere could be up for sale and it did not take long for clubs from Europe to come calling. Italian giants AC Milan, who tracked Wilshere at the start of the season are still interested in the midfielder and are ready to move for him at the end of the season. The English international has been decent in his time at the Dean Court and Wenger will have to think twice before selling him to a European club. So should Arsenal keep hold of Wilshere?

At 25, the Englishman is still one of the exciting talents around in English football and his time at the Vitality has proved that he has what it takes to play at the highest level. He has instantly improved the Bournemouth side every time he has taken the field and in his 18 games for the side, he has picked up an assist to his name. This run of games is his highest in a season and it is sure to bring the best out of him giving Arsenal a bit of a headache.

Wilshere has been in impressive form for the Cherries this season

A central midfielder who is also adept in a deep-lying or an attacking role in the middle of the field, Wilshere is known for his technique on the ball and his vision in passing. He is an exceptional dribbler who loves to take on his man and also has enough experience to know when to release the ball to his teammate. He loves to play through balls to his teammates trying to set them up on goal and he is a player whose ‘key passes’ are always on the high side. He is a player who suits Wenger’s system well but the new signings at the club have left him with no place in the side.

Wenger has the likes of Aaron Ramsey, Granit Xhaka, Francis Coquelin and Mohamed Elneny at his disposal in a similar position this season and Wilshere is way down in this list. All 4 players are expected to stay at the club for a longer time giving Wilshere little chance of a comeback to the Emirates. He is still a top class player who deserves to play in the best teams in England but Wenger, who does not have him in his plans, is well advised to let him go.

However, he cannot afford to lose him completely and Arsenal might want to add a buy-back clause in his contract that can help him snatch Wilshere up in the future. He is English and would love to stay in the Premier League but Wilshere has no place at the Emirates and will have to look elsewhere for a regular game time which Milan might be able to provide.

Do you think Wilshere should leave Arsenal at the end of the season?
