Food For Thought – Should Tottenham Go For This £25million Premier League Star In January?

Should Tottenham Go Back Again For Zaha This January?

Earlier this year, there were plenty of reports linking Wilfried Zaha with a £25million move to Tottenham Hotspur. Although the move never actually happened, there might still be a chance of Spurs going in for the winger in January.

But, would it be worth for Tottenham? Not entirely. Until May of 2017, Zaha was earning a mere £35,000-per-week at Crystal Palace while putting in impressive performances for the Eagles. But his hard work and skills were rewarded with a new five-year contract worth £110,000-per-week at the club. However, will Zaha be satisfied with the pay hike? Or would he want to challenge for titles with a bigger club?

The 24-year-old forward is bound to have big ambitions for himself, and playing in the Champions League would certainly be one of them. But at a club like Palace, he can only dream of European football and not achieve it.

Wilfried Zaha, who is also an England national, chose to represent Ivory Coast last season. Gareth Southgate, who is known to be a big admirer of the 24-year-old, tried to persuade the player to wear England colours but Zaha chose to represent his nation of birth instead.

The real question here is, whether Wilfried Zaha can actually fit into Mauricio Pochettino’s side? And the answer to that is, yes, he can. Zaha could be a perfect fit alongside Harry Kane with the both players playing in tandem.

His incredible pace and power could see him play in a significantly advanced role, running past opposition shoulders and opening space up for Kane. This would give the England striker enough time measure to take a go at the goal.

Harry Kane is certainly the one who’s better at hold-up play and is capable of bringing Zaha into the game. With both players obsessed with running past defenders, it gives Spurs a double threat going forward.

Even if Zaha can’t get into Pochettino’s starting XI, he can always be a game changer by coming off the bench. Wilfried Zaha was touted as the next big thing in football when he joined Manchester United as a 20-year-old. But his career at Old Trafford didn’t quite take off as he ended up at Crystal Palace trying to recover from the past.

However, it all comes down to Tottenham in the end. A move for the Palace winger in January will all depend on the progress of Spurs in both the Premier League and Champions League.
