Find Out The Missing Manchester United Trio From The Ballon D’Or Shortlist

Memphis Depay

According to reports, three Manchester United players were initially nominated by FIFA for the Ballon D’Or, though they are not contenders anymore now. It has been confirmed that the prize will not be going to a Red Devils’ star for 2015, after the three players were cut from the shortlist. The names included were that of skipper Wayne Rooney, winger Memphis Depay and superstar keeper David de Gea, who were all part of the initial 59 man list that FIFA put out.

Despite that, none of them have now featured in the reduced selection as the competition got tougher for places.

Out of the three, the Spaniard would be the most disappointed perhaps, having had a superb season for the Red Devils and impressing for the national side as well.

Former stars of the Manchester based side Cristiano Ronaldo and Paul Pogba were included among the top 23, as the winner will be announced in January.

Full shortlist includes:

Sergio Agüero, Gareth Bale, Karim Benzema, Cristiano Ronaldo, Kevin De Bruyne, Eden Hazard, Zlatan Ibrahimović, Andrés Iniesta, Toni Kroos, Robert Lewandowski, Javier Mascherano, Lionel Messi, Thomas Müller, Manuel Neuer, Neymar, Paul Pogba, Ivan Rakitić, Arjen Robben, James Rodríguez, Alexis Sánchez, Luis Suárez, Yaya Touré, Arturo Vidal.
