Fantastic Vertonghen – The Best And The Worst Rated Tottenham Hotspur Players In The 1-0 Win Over Barnsley

Tottenham Hotspur progressed to the next round of the Carabao Cup, after they defeated EFL Championship side Barnsley 1-0, at the Wembley Stadium, on Tuesday night.

Having been frustrated by an extremely resolute and a resilient Tykes’ defence, it took 65 minutes for Spurs to breach the Barnsley goal, when Dele Alli struck home from three yards out, after some good work by Kieran Trippier down the right-side.

That goal alone would prove to be enough for Mauricio Pochettino’s side, as they registered their second home win of the season, across all competitions. Here’s how the Tottenham players fared on the night;

Tottenham Hotspur Player Ratings

Michel Vorm – 6.5/10

Asked to make a couple of routine stops and he was up to the task. Wasn’t tested as much, but showed good command in the box.

Kieran Trippier – 7/10

Was a constant outlet down the right-side for Tottenham and sent in a couple of decent crosses, before setting up Alli for the only goal of the game.

Juan Foyth – 7/10

Headed just wide early in the game. A slip up in the first-half aside, the youngster enjoyed a strong game at the back. Showed good composure and confidence when with the ball. A good debut for the Argentine.

Jan Vertonghen – 8/10

Captaining the side for the game, the Belgian defender held the fort really well at the back. Solid as ever, got forward a couple of times as well.

Kyle Walker-Peters – 7/10

Making his second appearance of the season, the youngster fared pretty well at left-back. Always looking to get forward and send in crosses.

Mousa Dembele – 6/10

Not at his belligerent best, but still kept things under control in the middle of the park for the North Londoners.

Harry Winks – 7/10

Making his first start after the injury last season, the academy man had a good run out for the 90 minutes. Always looking to force the issue from the midfield, also had a couple of efforts at goal.

Moussa Sissoko – 6/10

Still quite a way away from his best, the Frenchman is showing signs of improvement with each passing game. Offered good energy and decent link-up play.

Dele Alli – 7/10

Scored the all-important winner, but still isn’t performing up to the levels that have been expected of him after the last two seasons.

Son Heung-Min – 7/10

Another strong display from the South Korean international. Looked the most likely to make something happen in the attack. Had a couple of shots saved late in the game.

Fernando Llorente – 6/10

Missed a great chance in the first-half. Still seems to be lacking fitness and sharpness.

Substitutes

Georges-Kevin N’Koudou – 6/10

Replaced Llorente after the opening goal. A bright cameo from the youngster.

Eric Dier – NA

On for Dembele with less than fifteen minutes left.

Tashan Oakley-Boothe – NA

Came on for Alli in the added time.
