Full Time: Liverpool 1-0 Brighton
Liverpool continued their winning run this season with a narrow 1-0 win over a stubborn Brighton & Hove Albion. Mohamed Salah scored the decisive goal of the game with a passing finish down the right-bottom corner, after Liverpool won the ball higher up the pitch.
Chris Hughton’s men did make it tough for the Reds by staying in the game and not over-committing despite being a goal down. They went for it in the last 15 minutes, only for Alisson Becker to make a significant save and seal the three points for Jurgen Klopp’s men.
Liverpool player ratings
Alisson Becker (7.5/10)
His neat footwork and command from the crosses was again on display. Made one good save right at the end to potentially seal the points.
Trent Alexander-Arnold (7/10)
A good game from the young right-back, who at times got caught out of possession defensively but recovered well.
Joe Gomez (7/10)
Was solid in the air against Glenn Murray and possessed a good reading of the game throughout.
Virgil van Dijk (7/10)
van Dijk wasn’t really called upon to defend a lot. The Dutchman was accurate in his passing and commanded the defence in set-piece situations.
Andrew Robertson (7/10)
Was playing like a left-winger at times. Delivered some crosses and was his usual self in tracking back and defending.
Naby Keita (6.5/10)
Keita showed energy up and down the pitch to not allow Brighton any easy possession. Could have done a bit better on the ball. But overall, a good performance.
James Milner (7/10)
A typical James Milner performance of this season, with accurate passing and great positioning.
Georginio Wijnaldum (7.5/10)
Was the pick of the players, operating from the deep-lying midfield position. The Dutchman covered the space well and passed the ball with immense accuracy.
Roberto Firmino (6/10)
Firmino worked hard off the ball to win possession but couldn’t really link up attacks in the final third. Still looking a bit rusty.
Sadio Mane (5/10)
Had an off-game where everything he tried didn’t seem to click. Should have done better with the two chances he got.
Mohamed Salah (7.5/10)
Scored his customary goal at Anfield and looked dangerous. He could have had one more before the game ended.
Substitute
Jordan Henderson (Subbed on after 67 mins) (6.5/10)
Was brought on to provide energy in the midfield and the Liverpool captain obliged.
Daniel Sturridge (Subbed on after 80 mins) (N/A)
Didn’t get many opportunities to run at the Brighton defence as the game tightened up with the away side going hammer and tongs.
