Full Time: Chelsea 0-0 Arsenal
Arsenal managed to come out with a point at the Stamford Bridge, as they played out a goalless draw against reigning champions Chelsea in matchweek 5 of the Premier League.
It was a testing game for both teams, with neither giving an inch at the back, while not really showing a great deal of clinical nature in the attack. Arsenal did come close on a number of occasions through Alexandre Lacazette, Aaron Ramsey who hit the post, and Shkodran Mustafi who had a goal ruled out for offside. The game petered out to a 0-0 finish, with both teams coming away with a single point.
Here’s how the Arsenal players fared on the day:
Arsenal Player Ratings
Petr Cech – 7/10
Made a great save to deny Pedro and made a stunning stop of Eden Hazard’s venomous shot in the second period. It was a good display from the veteran.
Shkodran Mustafi – 8/10
A great display at the back from the German, never really giving Alvaro Morata an inch. Had a goal ruled out for offside in the second half.
Laurent Koscielny – 8/10
Strong and combative performance by the captain, who led from the front. Made a couple of important challenges late in the game.
Nacho Monreal – 7/10
Has really grown into the role of a centre-back. Solid and steady, and was always available to cover his partners.
Hector Bellerin – 7/10
Made a couple of strong runs past Marcos Alonso in the first-half. Was more controlled in the second period. Got booked.
Aaron Ramsey – 8/10
A major improvement from his hapless display against Liverpool. Made his trademark forward forays, but never really left his defence vulnerable. Unlucky to strike the post after a great run.
Granit Xhaka – 7/10
Worked hard in an improved display. There were a couple of wayward passes, but overall decent.
Sead Kolasinac – 6.5/10
Has added a great deal of power and energy to Arsenal’s left flank. Had a driven effort saved. Booked late on.
Alex Iwobi – 6/10
Was in the team instead of the injured Mesut Ozil. Iwobi put in a shift without impacting the game a great deal in the attack.
Danny Welbeck – 6.5/10
Should have opened the scoring early in the game when he headed wide. Grafted hard for his team before being taken off injured.
Alexandre Lacazette – 6/10
Another player who worked really hard, but couldn’t take his chances. Had a shot saved by Thibaut Courtois and blasted over the bar once, with the goal gaping.
Substitutes
Alexis Sanchez – 6/10
Replaced Lacazette in the 66th minute. Doesn’t look at his sharpest yet.
Olivier Giroud – 6/10
On for the injured Welbeck. No real service for him to attack.
Mohamed Elneny – N/A
Came on for Iwobi for the final ten minutes. Booked.
