Fantastic Jerome, Brilliant Vydra – The best and the worst rated Derby players vs Barnsley

Full Time: Derby County 4-1 Barnsley

The final day of the Championship was all set up to be an incredibly exciting finale and my goodness, it did not disappoint.

Derby had to win this game to ensure that they went into the playoffs and this incentive seemed to be more than enough for them as they blew Barnsley away.

Sadly this meant Barnsley were relegated to League One as well.

Derby Player Ratings

Scott Carson – 6/10

Carson made a couple of good saves but didn’t have much to do for large swathes of the game. He will be disappointed with himself for not doing better with that goal and will be annoyed not to finish the league season with a clean sheet.

Craig Forsyth – 7/10

Back into central defence for Forsyth today and he had a good solid game. It is nice to see a central defender who can also play the ball well and it’s especially essential when playing three at the back.

Curtis Davies – 7/10

Had a solid game at centre-back, won his aerial duels well and looked strong in a tackle. Has been one of the standout defenders in the Championship this season and will be very pleased to have made it to the playoffs.

Andre Wisdom

Richard Keogh – 7.5/10

Keogh looked as solid at the back as the other two defenders but also managed to look dangerous in the attack, hitting the post on one occasion. He looks more and more comfortable with the ball at his feet.

Andre Wisdom – 7.5/10

Wisdom had an absolute nightmare in his first performance at right wing-back but since that game against Middlesbrough, he has excelled in the position. Looked a threat every time he got forward.

Marcus Olsson – 6/10

Olsson, in direct contrast to Wisdom, hasn’t really taken to the wing-back position and struggled again today. He was replaced pretty early by Rowett in what seemed like a tactical change.

Tom Huddlestone – 7/10

Played well in central midfield today and broke up Barnsley’s play well. He won a lot of his tackles and set up some quick attacks for his team.

Bradley Johnson – 7.5/10

Johnson has looked a little off the pace in the last few games but redeemed himself today by orchestrating the game for Derby. Picked up a good assist and will be happy with his contributions.

Tom Huddlestone

Tom Lawrence – 8/10

Has the quality to tear a defence apart with his pace and direct skill and did so time and time again today. Got a good goal to reward his efforts.

Andreas Weimann – 7.5/10

Weimann started in an attacking midfield role but was moved to left wing-back quite quickly after the introduction of Vydra. He did well in both positions and got forward into some good attacking positions.

Cameron Jerome – 9.5/10

Jerome has looked like a man reborn in the last 3 games and Derby have a lot to thank him for. He has 4 goals and 2 assists in these three matches and has looked absolutely immense at times. Will be looking forward to the playoffs.

Substitutes

Matej Vydra – 8/10

Derby fans will be getting used to Vydra’s incredible cameos off the bench but I’m not sure he will! Rounded off his excellent season with another goal to take himself to the top of the Championship top scorers.

David Nugent – 7.5/10

Came on to replace Jerome in the 66th minute and grabbed himself a goal almost immediately. Will be delighted after disappointing in recent games.

Joe Ledley – N/A

Came on in the 87th minute to give Tom Lawrence a rest.
