Fantastic Foster, Excellent Dawson – The best and the worst rated West Brom players vs Tottenham

West Bromwich Albion 1-0 Tottenham: Baggies Keep Premier League Hopes Alive With Crucial Win

Tottenham needed a few more points ahead of the West Brom game to ensure a top-four finish and a place in the Champions League.

The Baggies, on the verge of being demoted to Championship, had a productive run under interim gaffer Darren Moore and also pulled off one last-ditch effort to keep their survival hope alive.

They clinched another incredible victory over Tottenham when Jake Livermore poked the ball over the line in the closing seconds of the game to hand the Baggies a crucial win.

West Brom Player Ratings

Ben Foster (8.5)

Looked unbeatable between the sticks as he made a fine reaction stop to deny Harry Kane in the first half and also denied Fernando Llorente in the dying seconds of the game.

Allan Nyom (7.5)

Was excellent defensively as he kept Danny Rose in full control which, in turn, frustrated the English fullback all afternoon. Fought hard to keep composure while defending and passed with flying colours.

Craig Dawson (8.5)

Made 17 clearances throughout the game as his no-nonsense defending kept the hosts in contention until the very end. He inspired the Baggies to grab the winner in the closing seconds when he rose highest to meet a corner. His powerful header was stopped by Hugo Lloris but a scramble allowed Livermore to poke the ball over the line.

Ahmed Hegazi (8)

The Egyptian complemented Dawson in the heart of the Baggies backline and did exceptionally well to keep the dangerous Harry Kane under control.

Kieran Gibbs (7)

Was troubled by Lucas Moura late in the game but kept his composure and used his experience well to maintain discipline down the left flank.

Matthew Phillips (7.5)

Often caused trouble to Spurs defence from the right flank with his pace, physicality and cut-ins. Also, his crosses and corners unsettled the visitors at the back, who eventually paid the price towards the end.

Jake Livermore (8)

Netted the all-important goal in the closing seconds of the game to keep their survival hopes alive. Delivered a towering display against his boyhood club.

Chris Brunt (7.5)

Was combative in the midfield but was off the pace at times. However, he helped his side defensively to keep hold of the clean sheet and also broke down opponent’s moves with tackles and challenges.

James McClean (6.5)

Helped his side defensively but offered little in the attack as he did not see the ball much and kept on losing duels while going forward. Was replaced by Grzegorz Krychowiak late in the game.

Jay Rodriguez (6.5)

His cross-shot was cleared off the line in the first-half but the forward seemed less effective after the break and was eventually replaced by Nacer Chadli late in the game.

Jose Salomon Rondon (6)

Did not have enough chances but should have put his side ahead in the early minutes of the second half. He failed to control the ball properly and hit it wide. Was replaced by Daniel Sturridge in the second half.

Subs

Daniel Sturridge (6.5)

The Liverpool loanee’s fitness concerns did not help West Brom after his winter move but looked purposeful this afternoon since coming on in place of Rondon. Tried to trouble the Tottenham defence with his presence inside the box.

Nacer Chadli (6)

The former Spurs winger was introduced late in the game in place of Jay Rodriguez and helped his side clinch an incredible victory at the Hawthorns.

Grzegorz Krychowiak (N/A)

Was introduced in the 87th-minute in place of James McClean.
