Fantastic Fernandinho – The Best And The Worst Rated Man City Players From The 3-2 Win vs West Brom

Full Time: West Brom 2-3 Manchester City

Manchester City are back at the top of the points table with a five-point lead after yet another impressive attacking display, against West Bromwich Albion. Fernandinho was undoubtedly the star of the match, and the player set up Leroy Sane right after 10 minutes of action to hand Pep Guardiola’s men an early lead at The Hawthorns.

Tony Pulis’ Baggies struck back within three minutes as Jay Rodriguez levelled for the hosts, but their joy was short-lived as Fernandinho then scored one himself two minutes later to put City back in charge. Although Matt Phillips scored late on to give City a scare, the visitors fought back and held on to retain their dominant advantage in the title race.

Here’s how the Citizens fared against the Baggies.

Manchester City Player Ratings

Ederson – 7.5/10

Ederson was quite decent in front of the goal even though he conceded two. His routine saves were on par with his usual standards, and his foot work was quite impressive.

Kyle Walker – 8/10

Walker provided a lot of support on the right for City in both going forward and defending. His contributions were quite vital in penetrating the opposition defence and his cross was responsible for Sterling scoring the third goal.

John Stones – 6.5/10

Stones was more or less solid but the fact that Rodriguez sneaked into the gap was his responsibility.

Nicolas Otamendi – 6/10

Certainly not his best performance. He failed to contain Rondon and was quite shaky throughout the match.

Fabian Delph – 8.5/10

Delph continues to shine bright for Manchester City. Left-back was trouble area for the club but Delph has proven to be a valuable addition on that side. He never gave the ball away today and was quite solid in terms of guarding the City goal.

Kevin De Bruyne – 7/10

De Bruyne was not bad. His performance was diligent enough but then we are used to seeing so much from the player. His touches and passes were a bit off at times but he did play a crucial role in orchestrating surges into the Baggies’ defence.

Fernandinho – 9.5/10

Easily City’s best player on the field, Fernandinho’s ball for Sane to score was truly world-class. In fact, it goes on to show that the player is probably in his best form at the moment. He followed that with an important second goal.

David Silva – 8.5/10

Silva played a patient game filled with well-timed passes and put up another vital performance for City.

Bernardo Silva – 5/10

The player did not have a good day on the field. Although he held the position for long, he failed to produce results or have any sort of impact while going forward.

Gabriel Jesus – 6.5/10

Jesus was extremely scrappy and that certainly did not help him tonight. His display tonight was notable only for one poor touch on the ball which denied him a chance to score a goal towards the end of the match.

Leroy Sane – 9/10

With 6 goals and 5 assists in his last 7 Premier League games, Sane appears to be in no mood to slow down. He scored with a stunning finish and provided an assist for Fernandinho’s strike later on.

Subs:

Raheem Sterling – 8/10

After Bernardo Silva’s lack of impact, Sterling certainly seemed like a breath of fresh air as he added more dimension to City’s attack.

Ilkay Gundogan – N/A

Replaced Gabriel Jesus in the 81st minute.
