Fantastic Arfield, Impressive Tavernier – The best and the worst rated Rangers stars in the 5-1 win vs St. Johnstone

Rangers Player Ratings vs St. Johnstone – Here’s how the Gers fared

After picking up a draw in their opening Europa League game of the season, Rangers returned to winning ways by thumping St. Johnstone 5-1 at home. Steven Gerrard’s men looked devastating going forward as they created an ample number of opportunities.

James Tavernier opened the scoring for the Gers before Alfredo Morelos added a second just before the break. Scott Arfield then continued his fine run of form with another goal before substitute Kyle Lafferty added a fourth.

Blair Alston did pull one back for St. Johnstone but the deficit was far too huge to reduce. Daniel Candeias then capped off a great team performance with the fifth and final goal.

Rangers Player Ratings

Allan McGregor (6/10)

Made a couple of good stops but was unable to do anything about Alston’s goal. Apart from that, the goalkeeper was largely untroubled.

James Tavernier (8/10)

Tavernier has now scored 3 goals and provided 2 assists this season. His marauding runs down the flank have been massive for the Rangers. His free-kick was immaculate.

James Tavernier

Conor Goldson (7/10)

Despite making a shaky start to the game, Goldson put in a superb second half performance. He was everywhere and ensured that Rangers held onto their lead.

Nikola Katic (6/10)

The defender was guilty of giving away the ball on a few occasions but he did a good job at the back and made a number of clearances.

Jon Flanagan (7/10)

A quiet game from the full-back but did his job in the defence, keeping things simple at the back.

Ross McCrorie (7/10)

His defensive work and distribution in the middle of the park were fruitful for the Gers. He also made a couple of vital interceptions to stop the counter-attack.

Daniel Candeias

Daniel Candeias (8/10)

Candeias threatened until he found the back of the net. The Portuguese international was venomous throughout the night and posed all sorts of problems on the right flank.

Lassana Coulibaly (6/10)

The Mali international’s relentless running was good for the team today but his defensive work seemed a little sloppy and he was often caught out of position.

Scott Arfield (9/10)

It was another commanding performance from Scott Arfield, who scored a goal and assisted two. He was guilty of giving away a penalty but Arfield is proving to be a huge asset for the Rangers this season.

Ryan Kent (7/10)

Kent picked up two assists as well and capped off an impressive performance. He seems to be working well under Steven Gerrard but needs to show more consistency in his displays.

Alfredo Morelos (8/10)

Morelos returned to the fold and scored another goal for the Gers. He is proving to be a potent force at the moment.

Substitutes

Oviemuno Ejaria (6/10)

Ejaria brought some pace and energy down the flanks. He was defensively stable and ensured the Rangers held their own.

Graham Dorrans (6/10)

Dorrans played a couple of sloppy passes but he was more than willing to track back and keep St. Johnstone at bay.
