FA Cup Team Of Round 5 – The Best XI From The Weekend

The 5th round of the FA Cup brought with it an intense load of ups and downs and while some results turned out as we might have expected them to, a few yielded some very surprising results. That said, most of the clubs fared decently enough and quite a few players proved to be very impressive. Hence, here is our list of the top XI players from the recent encounters over the weekend.

Team of The Week

Formation: 4-3-3

Alex McCarthy – Southampton (GK)

McCarthy possibly put in his best performance in a Southampton jersey as the Saints battled hard to secure a well-deserved win against West Bromwich Albion. He was calm, composed and made some important saves as well to put Southampton on top.

Danny Rose – Tottenham Hotspur (LB)

Rose continues to be a spectacular left-back for Spurs and that was all the more evident in the game against Rochdale. Barring a few nervy moments, he put in quite a solid display.

Jack Stephens – Southampton (CB)

Reliable and consistent at the back, Stephens was a figure of authority for Southampton. He bossed the West Brom attackers like nobody’s business and was just defensively reassuring throughout the game.

Harry Maguire

Harry Maguire – Leicester City (CB)

Maguire continues to go from strength-to-strength for the Foxes and his improvements are all the more evident with every passing day. Solid yet mobile, Maguire was one of their best players against Sheffield United.

Florent Hadergjonaj – Huddersfield Town (RB)

Playing against Manchester United might have seemed like a daunting task for Hadergjonaj but he certainly showed no signs of it. He was a constant threat on the right-hand side and kept quite a lot of United attackers at bay.

Wilfred Ndidi – Leicester City (CM)

Despite being just 21 years of age, Ndidi has established himself as one of Leicester’s finest and we were all reminded of that fact once more as he put in a commanding yet effective performance against Sheffield United.

Riyad Mahrez – Leicester City (AM)

Mahrez set up the winning goal for the Foxes and was his usual energetic self on the field. He continues to be a lethal presence for Claude Puel’s men.

Cesc Fabregas – Chelsea (CM)

Fabregas is a pivotal figure for the Blues and he has the ability to impact a game with his experience and power in the midfield. That is exactly what he did against Hull City and was quite effective at dictating the shots to get things going for Chelsea.

Romelu Lukaku

Willian – Chelsea (RW)

Willian put in a magnificent performance against Hull City and was arguably Chelsea’s best player on the field. His attacking runs were energetic, impressive and the player is a true gem.

James McClean – West Bromwich Albion (LW)

West Brom may have had a forgettable weekend but one player who absolutely stood out for them was McClean. Incisive, creative and speedy, the winger was simply at his best for the club but unfortunately, he was let down by the rest of his teammates.

Romelu Lukaku – Manchester United (CF)

To be very honest, United got overrun by Huddersfield on several occasions and did not look like the winning team. However, it was Lukaku who remarkably turned things around for them and scored a stunning brace to make them look like the winners.
