Excellent Tierney, poor Lustig – The best and the worst-rated Celtic players vs RB Leipzig

Celtic player ratings vs RB Leipzig: How did the Hoops fare?

Celtic picked up their first win over a German side since 2003 after a win over RB Leipzig in the Europa League. Brendan Rodgers’ men triumphed 2-1 on the night as Kieran Tierney and Odsonne Edouard got on the scoresheet.

James Forrest was also a huge influence as the Hoops put out a strong display at Parkhead Stadium.

Here we take a look at how all of their stars fared in their win over the German side-

Celtic player ratings

Craig Gordon (7/10)

Made a couple of brave saves to keep Celtic in the game. He had no chance in stopped Leipzig’s only goal but was otherwise superb.

Mikael Lustig (5/10)

The Swede looked comfortable all night as the German side pressed him hard. He was caught on the ball on way too many occasions.

Dedryck Boyata (7/10)

He was defensively very good as his pace helped cut out a number of dangerous passes and runs.

Filip Benkovic (8/10)

His passing was superb on the night and he was also very dominant in the air, winning a number of vital headers.

Kieran Tierney (9/10)

Scored a magnificent goal to send the Hoops in front. He was also defensively solid on the night and picked up a yellow card in the process.

Callum McGregor (8/10)

His quick thinking helped him score the opener for the Hoops. His work rate was very good on the night as he broke down a number of attacks.

Tom Rogic (7/10)

Leipzig dealt with him mostly but he always looked a threat. He wasted a good chance when the Hoops were 1-0.

Ryan Christie (8/10)

Always hassled the Leipzig midfielders and barely gave them time on the ball. A tireless engine on the night and came up with an assist.

James Forrest (7/10)

Produced a stunning assist for Tierney’s first goal after coming back from injury. He was very direct and that caused all sorts of problems for the Bundesliga side.

Scott Sinclair (7/10)

He worked hard tracking back and helped defensively. Showed some nice touches up front but fluffed his lines when sent clean on goal.

Odsonne Edouard (8/10)

Had a tough job to do against the Leipzig defenders. Took his goal well and caused all sorts of problems with his pace.

Substitutes

Youssouf Mulumbu (3/10)

He came on in place of the injured Forrest. Leipzig almost scored through his mistake.
