Full Time: Swansea City 2-1 West Brom
Swansea City pulled off an excellent late turnaround to come from behind and defeat West Brom 2-1 at the Liberty Stadium on the final day of the Premier League to finish 15th in the table.
It was the Baggies who went ahead through Jonny Evans just a little after the 30-minute mark. The Swans pulled it back in the second period with Jordan Ayew’s goal. Fernando Llorente then scored late on in the 86th minute to complete the comeback and confirm the three points for Swansea.
Here are the player ratings for Swansea City players:
Swansea Player Ratings
Kristoffer Nordfeldt – 6/10
Given a surprise start ahead of Lukasz Fabianski. Solid for large phases, there were a few nervy moments as well. Made a crucial late save to seal three points.
Kyle Naughton – 7/10
Another strong outing for the right-back. Made several incisive forward surges down the flank and threatened to score on an occasion.
Federico Fernandez – 6/10
Had a tough time to deal with the very physical Salomon Rondon, but marshalled him well and made a few crucial interventions to keep West Brom at bay.
Alfie Mawson – 7/10
The club’s young player of the year finished the season on a strong note with a solid performance at the heart of the defence.
Martin Olsson – 6.5/10
Worked hard down the left side and was full of energy. But could not create as many chances as usual.
Leroy Fer – 7/10
Came into the line-up for Ki Sung-Yeung and put in a strong performance. A few typical forward runs from the midfield and almost set Fernandez up with a lobbed ball.
Leon Britton – 8/10
Another excellent performance from the midfielder. Excellent on the ball, equally good without it. Taken off to a rousing ovation and deserved it considering his great contribution in the closing weeks.
Tom Carroll – 7/10
Links up the play beautifully in the middle of the park. Has had a great impact since coming in, in the winter window.
Gylfi Sigurdsson – 8/10
Displayed his class with some great touches and his free-kick was key for the equalizer. The fans will be hoping that it won’t be his last game for the club.
Jordan Ayew – 8/10
Another hard working and tireless performance at the top. Deservedly scored his first goal for the club.
Fernando Llorente – 8.5/10
Once again the star for Swansea. The Spaniard nodded down the ball for Ayew to open the scoring before scoring the winner with a volleyed strike. Excellent debut campaign in England.
