Excellent Kane – The Best And The Worst Rated Tottenham Hotspur Players vs Borussia Dortmund

Tottenham Hotspur began their UEFA Champions League campaign with a 3-1 triumph over German side Borussia Dortmund, at the Wembley.

It was the start that Spurs would have hoped for as Son Heung-Min continued his brilliant form against Dortmund, opening the scoring with a stunning effort just four minutes into the game. The lead did not last for long though, as seven minutes later Andriy Yarmolenko brought the German outfit back on level terms with a sublime effort.

Harry Kane put the Lilywhites back ahead in under five minutes, beating the goalkeeper at his near post to make it 2-1. The visitors then had a goal from Christian Pulisic chalked off for offside on the verge of half-time as Spurs went into the break with the lead intact. Ten minutes into the break, Dortmund had another goal disallowed for offside, four minutes after which Kane doubled his tally for the day, to put Spurs two ahead.

Jan Vertonghen was sent off after he received his second yellow card of the game late on, but Mauricio Pochettino’s men came away with the three points. And here we see how the Tottenham players fared on the night;

Tottenham Hotspur Player Ratings

Hugo Lloris – 6/10

Not a lot he could do about Yarmolenko’s stunner. Did most things right for large parts of the game.

Toby Alderweireld – 8/10

Another assured display from the big Belgian in the heart of the defence. Solid as a rock. Hand him that contract already!

Davinson Sanchez – 7/10

Gave the ball away on occasions, but it was a solid display from the summer acquisition. Needs some polishing however.

Jan Vertonghen – 6.5/10

Got the assist for the second Spurs goal and was dominant at the back for most parts. Received his marching orders late on slightly harshly.

Serge Aurier – 7/10

Handed his debut for Spurs, the summer arrival looked the part with his pace, strength and power. Will definitely improve with more game time.

Eric Dier – 6.5/10

Booked harshly in the first half. Combative as ever in the middle of the park for Tottenham.

Mousa Dembele – 6.5/10

Started off slowly, but grew with time. However, not his usual dominating self in the midfield.

Ben Davies – 7/10

Had a shot saved in the second period. Got up and down well and was fairly solid defensively, making a few important interceptions.

Christian Eriksen – 7/10

Got another assist, teeing up Kane for the third goal, but was relatively quiet by his high standards until that point.

Son Heung-Min – 8/10

Opened the scoring from a tight angle, with a brilliant finish. Could have easily had another goal. Made sure Dele Alli wasn’t missed.

Harry Kane – 9/10

Released Son leading to the goal, then found the back of the net himself, following a powerful run and good finish. Added the third with a left-footed strike via a deflection. Could not complete his hat-trick despite a number of opportunities, but showed why he is one of the best in the business.

Substitutes

Moussa Sissoko – NA

Replaced Son with less than 10 minutes left to play.

Fernando Llorente – NA

On for Kane in the 87th minute.
