Arsene Wenger has been known for his unique eye for talent as he shown with the number of young players that he spent on over the years. However, the Frenchman seems to have made an error a few years ago when he let Turkish international Oğuzhan Özyakup leave the club back in 2012. The 24-year old made just two senior appearances for the Gunners in his time in England before being shipped to Besiktas. However, his form early this season, where he has scored two goals in 4 outings already, has seen Arsenal ponder over getting him back to the club. But do Arsenal really need the Turkish international? Here is a scout report on Özyakup as we try to determine if he is deserving of a place in the current Arsenal squad.

Born in Zaandam, Netherland, Ozyakup started his professional career as a teenager at AZ Alkmaar after his father provided him with the support needed to join the club. It took just three years for him to earn a call-up for the Gunners but he was not able to impress in his stint in the Premier League. He played for the country of his birth till the U19 level but started representing Turkey at the U21 side back in 2012 and has already made 23 senior appearances for the national side in his career.

An attacker by trait, Ozyakup plays in a central role just behind the striker and has all the attributes that make him a dangerous player. His skill and control in possession of the ball are exemplary while his understanding of the game allows him to stay one step ahead of his opponents. Technically gifted, Ozyakup has tremendous vision and an even better ability to find his man even in acute angles and is also adding a goal-scoring threat to his game recently.

Though he is regarded as one of the most exciting talents in Turkey, the lack of physical attributes makes Ozyakup a liability at times. He is not a strong player who relishes the physical battle and has a long way to go before he can take the responsibility of a top class side in Europe. He is also a bit weak in defense and has often been criticized for the lack of defensive contributions during a game for his side.

At 24, Ozyakup will surely become a better player in due time and that is the reason why Wenger wants to spend on him again. Having already stayed at the club for a year under the manager, Ozyakup will know the workings of the club and being a better player than he was from his last stint in the country, he might actually grow on to become a decent player for the Gunners. However, with the likes of Alex Iwobi, Mesut Ozil and Aaron Ramsey ready to take a similar role in the side, Ozyakup is not an immediate requirement for Wenger.

The Turkish international has a lot of time to turn into a world class player. Arsenal will want to keep tabs on him to snatch him up when he is at his best but at the moment, Wenger has enough troubles within his own squad to solve before trying to add a player who might not help them this season. Do you think Ozyakup would be a good fit for the Gunners this season?
