Everton would strike gold if they splash the cash on this top-class £40m Ligue 1 star in January

Why Everton should sign Tanguy NDombele from Lyon

According to a report in Liverpool Echo, Premier League club Everton are interested in signing Lyon’s French midfielder Tanguy NDombele. The Blues have been keeping close tabs on the player and even sent scout Martyn Glover to watch the player.

As per the report, the Toffees would face competition from a host of top European clubs as they try to make a move for the player who joined Lyon on a permanent basis this past summer. The 21-year-old is currently valued at around £40m and English champions Manchester City were interested in signing him earlier.

Here’s why the Merseysiders should do everything to sign the youngster, if not in January, then in the next summer transfer window:

The addition of spark to the midfield

It just shows the progress Everton have made in the past three to four months under Marco Silva that they are targeting a player who has already been linked with the best clubs in Europe. As per the report, the manager and Marcel Brands want to bolster their midfield options over the course of the next two transfer windows.

The Toffees have Idrissa Gueye and Andre Gomes as first-choice options in the midfield. With the latter being on a loan deal from Barcelona, it is fair to say that the club would require a new midfielder, if not as a backup, then as a replacement for the Portuguese.

Tanguy NDombele is a dynamic central midfielder who can single-handedly take over games with his abundant propensities on and off the ball. He is a midfield powerhouse capable of dribbling past opponents in tight areas and pick out vital key passes.

Talk about midfield players being involved in both facets of the game, the Frenchman is someone who can score, create goals, and also put in a defensive shift.

He possesses a tackle rate of 2.1 in the league, with a key pass average of 1.5 per game and a pass success rate of over 88%. He has supplied four assists in 14 appearances in the Ligue 1 this year.

It’s no wonder that the 21-year-old was linked with a move to Manchester City. He was one of the orchestrators in Lyon’s win over the Cityzens at the Etihad in the Champions League earlier this season.
