Everton would pull off a masterstroke by targeting these two pacy full-backs to solve right-back crisis – Here is why Silva should go for it

Everton Opinion: Two right-backs the Toffees should target in summer

Seamus Coleman has been Everton’s number one right-back and one of the first names on the team sheet for nearly a decade now.

The Irishman, 30, suffered a horrific leg break on international duty in March 2017 and made his return to the Everton team on January 31, 2018. With injuries and age creeping up on the right-back, Coleman has lost a bit of speed and is not the player he once was.

The 30-year-old has massively struggled with the pace and intensity this season. Everton boss Marco Silva has not been reluctant to hand Jonjoe Kenny a run in at right-back in the last two games and while the youngster has done well, the club should take a dip in the summer transfer market to add a quality right-back.

It’s important for the Merseysiders to strengthen their backline after some horrible defending this season. That said, here are two right-backs Silva should target in summer.

  1. Kenny Lala (Strasbourg)

Kenny Lala has been one of the stellar performers for Strasbourg this season, contributing with four goals and nine assists in all competitions. He has been a key player for Strasbourg, who are 10th in Ligue 1 and have shipped in just 29 goals in 24 games.

A swashbuckling right-back with superb technical ability, Lala has power, is solid defensively and can provide Everton with a top attacking outlet. The 27-year-old loves a tackle and is no slouch when it comes to defending.

The Frenchman will inject pace and attacking intent into the Everton side, whilst also bringing defensive diligence to the team.

  1. Djibril Sidibe (AS Monaco)

Djibril Sidibe is one of the best full-backs in Ligue 1 but he hasn’t been at his marauding best for Monaco this season. He returned to the first team in January after spending more than two months on the sidelines.

At 26, Sidibe will enter the prime years of his career. Everton should consider moving in for the Frenchman, who played a vital part in guiding Monaco to the Ligue 1 title a couple of years ago.

A pacey, athletic and hard-working player with immense stamina, Sidibe is renowned for his eagerness to get forward on attacking runs and deliver delicious crosses in the box from the right. He maintains his defensive stability as well, using his power and strength to shrug off players when seeking to regain the ball.

If Everton are looking to upgrade Coleman then Sidibe would definitely be a good choice.
