Morgan Schneiderlin left Manchester United to sign a four-and-a-half year deal with Everton in January 2017. But after a bright start to life at Goodison Park, the Frenchman has royally struggled to live up to the expectations.
The 29-year-old has managed just seven Premier League games this season, playing a bit-part role in Marco Silva’s debut season at Everton. Injuries haven’t helped Morgan Schneiderlin either, with the French midfielder falling behind the likes of Idrissa Gueye, Tom Davies, Gylfi Sigurdsson and Andre Gomes.
The summer transfer window of 2019 would be the ideal time for Silva to offload Schneiderlin as he clearly doesn’t trust the midfielder. Silva should target a midfielder that can improve his team as well as replace Schneiderlin. That said, the Toffees should make a move for Girona star Pere Pons.
Pere Pons, 26, has enjoyed another solid season in the La Liga, managing 22 appearances across all competitions for Girona. He has been a vital cog in Eusebio Sacristan’s team, nailing a regular place at the heart of the midfield.
A defensive midfielder by trade, Pere Pons is an excellent passer of the ball and can dictate the tempo of the game with his creativity and distribution skills. The Spaniard is adept at finding pockets of space and opening up the opposition’s defence with one killer pass.
The 26-year-old is not the strongest player on the pitch but he excels in a defensive role with his positional sense and interpretation of space, cutting out the attacks and acting as a protection layer for the backline.
Pons likes to keep things simple and uses his intelligence as well as the vision to work the channels and create chances for his teammates.
Everton’s defence has been in utter shambles this season, with none of the defenders barring Michael Keane putting in consistent displays. Silva has failed to get the perfect combination in midfield to add extra security to his porous backline.
Pons could be that player for the Toffees who’ll act as a shield for the rearguard as well as bring balance to the team.

The Spaniard will add steel to the Everton midfield and break up the play with his work rate, tackles and interceptions, whilst also allowing the others around him to make an impact going forward.
Hence, the Toffees should go all out to sign him in the summer from Girona.
