“Prime Ronaldinho”, “Royal day”: Some Everton fans react gleefully to 2-0 win vs West Ham + Match Report

Everton vs West Ham report: Everton match report

Everton moved out of the Premier League’s bottom three with Bernard’s early strike and a late stunner by substitute Gylfi Sigurdsson earning Marco Silva’s side a deserved victory 2-0 victory against West Ham at the Goodison Park on Saturday.

Bernard netted a fine solo goal in the first-half and Gylfi Sigurdsson came off the bench to score a stunning goal late on to seal the Toffees’ first win in five games.

If there was pressure on the Everton boss, it didn’t disturb their players who played with far greater intensity than their lethargic counterparts. There was intensity, energy, urgency and flair in the hosts’ play in the opening stages of the game that put West Ham on the back foot.

Silva’s side hit the woodwork twice and Roberto had to make a number of saves in the West Ham goal, most notably from Tom Davies at point-blank range. But the goal was coming for Everton and it finally arrived after 17 minutes when Bernard scored in fine fashion from an almost impossible angle after being fed by Theo Walcott.

Everton went for the second goal. Richarlison hit the outside of the post while Alex Iwobi and Walcott both tested Roberto from distance. West Ham boss Manuel Pellegrini acted at the interval by withdrawing Felipe Anderson for Andriy Yarmolenko.

Yarmolenko made a quick impact and his square pass to Pablo Fornals deserved better than the Spaniard shooting wide. Everton responded with a Bernard free-kick whipped in just wide and Michael Keane’s header saved by Roberto before Walcott rattled the crossbar with a thunderous volley.

The Toffees kept the ante up; Iwobi couldn’t beat Roberto one-on-one before Diop sliced a cross that deflected off the goalkeeper and went for a corner. West Ham almost landed a sucker punch but Diop was denied from close range by Jordan Pickford.
