Everton splashing €40m to land this sublime midfield star would be a transfer of real significance

Why Bruno Fernandes would be a fantastic signing for Everton

According to a report from Tuttomercatoweb, Everton are interested in Sporting Lisbon star Bruno Fernandes.

Bruno Fernandes has been in sublime form this season, racking up 14 goals and 9 assists in 27 games. The Portuguese playmaker’s performances haven’t gone unnoticed, however, and Tuttomercatoweb claims Everton could launch a €40million bid for the player.

Everton are on a bad run of form at the moment, having won only one of their last eight outings in the Premier League. They are struggling to find any kind of momentum whatsoever, with Marco Silva running out of ideas of late.

Truth be told, the Toffees are lacking cohesiveness and understanding on the pitch, which is making them such a fragile team for the opposition to play against.

Their defence and the attack have been out of sorts since the start of the season and now the midfield has been sloppy in recent times and Silva needs to bolster the department.

Only Andre Gomes and Gylfi Sigurdsson deserve praise for consistently performing under the Portuguese manager. Neither Idrissa Gueye has performed according to his usual standards nor has Morgan Schneiderlin looked like his old self, leaving the Everton midfield devoid of any substance at times this season.

To ease the pressure on the shoulders of Gomes and Sigurdsson, the addition of Bruno Fernandes makes sense for Everton. Fernandes has played most of his career as an advanced midfielder or as a central midfielder, but he can also deputise as a winger or as a secondary striker. His versatility coupled with his technical ability, creativity, set-pieces and high work rate would make him a real asset to the Toffees.

The Portugal international has a very good passing range, which allows him to distribute the ball and switch the play. Blessed with quick feet, vision and awareness to link up the play in the final third, Fernandes can come up with the spectacular as well.

The addition of Fernandes would not only help Everton boost their midfield but also provide Silva with a genuine goalscorer to aid the likes of Richarlison, Cenk Tosun, Theo Walcott and Bernard. Also, his European experience and international pedigree could come very handy for the Merseysiders.

Everton may have to spend a good amount of money to get any deal for Bruno Fernandes across the line this month, but this could well be a transfer of real significance.
